Our Xmas gift ideas this week can be seen all around the shop but here's a taster for you in the adjacent image.
The SkyTrak nearest the pin challenge is well underway with seven entries so far but plenty of room between the best shot and the pin so come and have a go. It's a bit of fun but at the same time there's an excellent prize on offer. Entry is £5 for six shots. Pop into the shop where the shot is set up and ready to go all day long.
Don't forget to check your clubs for worn or shiny grips. This is definitely one of the most common oversights in the game! We will be running the re-grip offer throughout the winter to prepare you for the 2016 so keep an eye out.
Also, our pro shop Xmas Raffle tickets are still available at £5 per strip. Prizes to be drawn on Xmas eve.
Congratulations to Charles Hillock for being appointed as Captain elect for 2016, alongside Alice Rogers as the Ladies Captain. We are in for another fantastic year in 2016.
We now find ourselves in the final month of what has been a busy year at the club. The highlights are being alluded to in various speeches of late but I'd like to reiterate some of the success stories. The first one being the team of Sandeep Grewal, Tom Dolan, Lloyd Hart and Carl Law bringing the coveted Crosby Beacon back to Heswall.
Another has come from the junior team in winning the District League, this is a great achievement and testament to the golfing calibre we have going forward.
Well done to Junior Captain Jack Dodd and Chair of Juniors Shaun Carter for an excellent year. As he said on Sunday at the Christmas dinner, the 2016 Junior Captain Tom Kitchen is keen to spearhead a strong defence of the title.
Thanks to both of the Club Captains for attending and handing out the awards. Both the juniors and their parents had an excellent time. A big well done to Hannah Kurton and Matt Bowes on being the most improved juniors of 2015!
The
Midweek Stableford on Thursday was the story of a continuing friendly rivalry sandwiching top three regulars as Roy Christian (28) got the better of playing partner Brian Edwards (25) with Peter Walsh stick in the middle on (26). Some great scoring there given the conditions.
On Saturday the gents contested the 12-hole 'hurricane desmond'
Stableford. In winds that would have sent any umbrella bearers down the Dee to Chester in a flash, the scoring can't have been low. Wrong, for Chris Hornsby at least who managed to play two-under his handicap for 26 points in Division One. Both Steve Skupski and Frank Lovell must have thought their 24s were more than good enough for the win! In Division Two, the winning number was 24, in fact there were three of them. Phil Jones triumphing on countback from John West in second and Peter Walsh in third. Excellent golf!
The ladies played an
American Greensomes on Lady Captain's Day this Tuesday and it proved to be a very popular format. There were three winning scores of 27 points so a countback was needed. Well done to winners Anne Chadwick and Alka Tank, they had a very interesting round which included three birdies, unfortunately for them only two of them counted as the third was actually a passing seagull that didn't fair very well against the moving ball! Runners up were Christina Hornsby and Barbara Jamieson with Theresa O'Neill and Anne Maria Kitchen coming third.
