Many of you will have played golf on games consoles and been excited about ridiculous under par scores. How about being able to do it for real?! Jordan Spieth became only the second person ever to post 30-under-par in a 4-round tournament when he won on the Plantation course at Kapalua last weekend. Remarkable. Over in South Africa in the rain-affected event on the European Tour, it was local boy Brandon Stone who cruised to a two shot victory. He's certainly one to watch this year.
No club competitions to report on this week with the course closures. On the plus side, it has allowed us to get in and refurbish the Swing Room in time for the projector to be installed. This year club fitting will be high on the agenda to make sure you get the best out of your swing and any hardware purchases.
It's been a miserable start to 2016 on the golf front with non-stop rain closing the course. As you can see by the pictures below, the rain has flooded large areas of certain holes and the whole course is saturated. I've been out for a walk this morning and fully support Guy Canning's decision to give the course a rest.
Fingers crossed for some dry weather and some golf over the next few weeks.
On the subject of custom fitting, we have just taken delivery of the 2016 Titleist product. The right shaft alone in your club can increase both your distance and accuracy by 30% so it's worth coming to try it out even if you think your current clubs are performing well. If you'd like to register your interest please get in touch here.
Things to look forward to in 2016:
- Nike Vapor Fly range - Those followers of the tour will have spotted the Nike ambassadors, including Rory, with a new blue headed driver. Watch out for these in mid-Feb.
- Nike LC4 shoes - Launched late November these are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn to date. With a 2-year guarantee and in three colour ways they are not to be missed.
- Demo Days - During 2016 we hope to run a few more demo and custom fitting days. We will have Titleist and Nike here for sure and possible one or two others. We will also be running the Nike Experience Day again after last year's success.
- Coaching Clinics - As mentioned last week, I will be running more coaching clinics this year with a big variety of subject. The first one available is next Wednesday, 20 January where we will focus on pitching. There are seven spaces left. It will run between 9:30am and 11am. Book your spot here.
- Junior Camp - I will also be running a junior camp in the February half-term. Bookable through the shop it will be on the Tue - Thu from 10am until 12pm.
