Thank you to those members who supported the grand clubhouse sale last weekend. There were lots of bargains to be had and we have cleared a bit more room in the shop for this year's fast arriving product. Speaking of which, here are this week's new arrivals:
New product is arriving all the time so be sure to pop your head in next time you're down the club.
We had a Scotty Cameron and Vokey Wedges Education Day yesterday from Titleist so are now more qualified than ever to help with your short game needs.
If I told you I could knock two shots off your game without looking at your swing, then I think you'd be all ears. We all look for consistency in our game, however if I opened your ball pocket then I bet I would find numerous different brands, which all fly different distances. This in itself can render your yardage device useless. Using the same ball each time you play is a must for consistency. Finding which ball is right for you is also pretty easy. Come and speak to us in the shop about a ball fitting.
Every year it is my goal to open the driving range ASAP which is usually the beginning of March. I will keep monitoring the outfield however at the moment it is still saturated and unfit for play. Fingers crossed for more dry weather.
The European Tour is on its Asian leg at the moment and last week it was the Maybank Malaysian Open, where Australian Marcus Fraser closed with an excellent 67 to take the title. Riviera Country Club in LA was the setting for the Northern Trust Open where McIlroy, Johnson and Scott were all in the running going into Sunday. But it was the ever-colourful Bubba Watson who triumphed - he's great to watch!
On the Ladies Tour last week it was one girl's story. She left her only mistake until the last, but by then Haru Nomura already knew that the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open was hers. She had played one of the great rounds of Australian tournament golf, a 65 that closed out legends of the past, present and future; such as world number one Lydia Ko, and hall of famer Karrie Webb.
Members will be saddened to hear of the passing of one of the lady members, Amanda Shannon, who lost her 18 month battle with illness. Thoughts are with her family and friends.
The Midweek Stableford went ahead on a lovely winter's day last week, whilst the ladies played their 12-Hole Stableford on probably the best day of the year so far. However rain stopped play yet again on Saturday as the 18-Hole Stableford had to be abandoned around 2:45pm. This competition will not be rescheduled, however entry fees and twos entries will be carried forward to the next £3 competition.
