Hello golfer,
Masters week is upon us. I hope you're all looking out for your sweepstake player in today's first round. Let's hope that the tournament goes all the way to the 72nd hole come Sunday. As always, we will have each one of Rory's four Masters outfits on display for you to cast your eyes on.
Last week's Shell Houston Open produced a surprise winner in journeyman Jim Herman. His excellent final round saw off some stern opposition in Stenson, Johnson and Spieth. This has earned him the privilege of hitting the opening tee shot this week at Augusta. It was another win for Lydia Co who became the youngest two-time major winner on the LPGA Tour. This girl is more than impressive however it took a birdie on the 72nd to clinch it by just one from England's Charlie Hull and In Gee Chun.
We are now fully stocked with the latest that Galvin Green has to offer from polo shirts to waterproof outerwear. Pop in to have a look at our new 'shop within a shop' concept.
The Nike Experience Day is well booked up now, however feel free to wander down to the range on Saturday and grab a few clubs to try out.
Please take advantage of our two trade-in offers that are currently running. Your old shoes and batteries now carry some value against new ones - see below for details.
Last week's Midweek Stableford was the first 18-hole event of the year. After a good performance in the Alliance the day before, Ally Macdonald continued his good form to win with 39 points. Runner-up with 36 points was Phil Taylor, beating Martin Battishill on countback.
A 4BBB Stableford was the order of the day on Saturday as 150 golfers competed as we build up to the season. The new 90% handicap was applied for the first time, but scoring was still very high. Winning with a 10-under-par 46 points were Derek Eason and Richard Knowlson, one ahead of Alex Zelaskowski and Mark Sanderson in second. Paul Jamieson and Mike Roberts took third with 44 points. Great scoring in a popular event.
The ladies played a Foursomes Stableford on Tuesday, a tricky format when not many have played 18 holes for a while. There was no rain for a change but it was still a bit breezy. Winners on the day, courtesy of countback, were Christina Hornsby and Alla Tank, pipping Judith Brown and Ruth Walker after both came in with 32 points. Third with 31 were Sue Totty and Kate Dean.
Dave Cederholm and Shay Keogh breezed through round two of the Daily Mail Foursomes with a Sunday morning 5&3 victory over Caldy. Well done lads, keep it going.
I'm glad to see so many of you enjoying the facilities once again. We were a little later than usual with the opening this year due to the weather. I've noticed a few balls being hit in the direction of the 13th fairway, and whilst it's never the intention to do so please be mindful of this and shout fore if anyone is in danger. The health and safety of others is paramount. Please also change club if you keep hitting it off the range. New range targets are on my agenda but if you'd like to see any more improvements to the range feel free to come and see me. Alternatively, send me your suggestions here.
