You may have seen him around the club recently, you certainly wouldn't forget if you did - take a look of the photo here courtesy of Sky Sports' footage from the weekend. One of Alan's pupils - Andy 'Beef' Johnson - won the Spanish Open at Valderrama last week. Great news for him and for Alan who has been working with him for 18 months or so.
Over the water at Harbour Town it was another of Alan's ex-pupils - Branden Grace - who took top spot for his maiden PGA Tour victory. Great to see Luke Donald back in contention with the Ryder Cup fast approaching.
Well done to Julian Bishop for recording a hole-in-one on the 4th hole last week during a social game.
Competition Results
The Midweek Stableford was back to 12 holes last week, giving the late starters a chance to beat the light.
The summer tees were out on Saturday for the first Medal of the year. Combined with little roll on the fairways, the whites seemed like a long way back. No problems for Joe Williamson thought, who went round in a one-under-par 71 for a 67 nett and a three shot victory from Alex Cranston in second. Third with 71 was Trevor Moon. There was equal success for Richard Knowlson in Division Two as he too returned a 67, five ahead of runner-up Jack Grey who beat Mike Green on countback.
What a day for the ladies Golf Foundation Medal on Tuesday. Glorious sunshine and some great scores to go with it. Barbara Eyers recorded the lowest gross in Division One for a 74 nett to take top spot, runner-up with 79 was Heather Ensor and third with 81 was Barbara Jamieson. It was a three-way tie on nett 77 in Division Two, Steff Way finishing first after countback, Jan Lyon in second and Marilyn Jones in third. In Division Three Helen Billington topped the list with an excellent 75, two back in second was Jackie Walker, third with 79 was Brenda Dooney. The lowest score of the day went to Sue Lovell in Division Four as she recorded a fine 72, eight clear of Kath Grainger in second with Beryl Chase one further back in third. There were 2s for Bernadette Jones and Lady Captain Alice.
