It was a Monday finish on the European Tour this week with bad weather delays in China. It will have been a long night for Lee Slattery and Alex Levy who were tied for the lead with five left to play. However it was the young South Korean Lee Soomin who woke up in the best form. A birdie and eagle in the last three holes helped him to a two-shot victory.
The Valero Texas Open took place in America last week. He's been knocking on the door for a month or so and this time it finally opened for Charley Hoffman, as he sealed a one-shot victory from the colourful Patrick Reed.
Thursday Stableford - There's two weeks of results here as they were missed off last time. The winner a fortnight ago was Nigel Kenwright with 26 points, one ahead of Dave Hughes and Tony Walker who finished second and third, respectively. Last week it was Rick Austin's turn again as he scored 27 points, Trevor Starkey Jones was runner-up also with 27, one ahead of third placed Roy Christian.
PGA Pro-Am Medal - It was perfect weather for Saturday's event, with progression to the regional final at Formby with myself was up for grabs. Congratulations to Lee Pennington for qualifying with a 71. Lee was runner-up in Division One to Adam Carter who recorded a superb 66, but unfortunately his age doesn't qualify him for Formby. Third in Division One was Roy Christian. Dave Harland topped the tree in Division Two with a 71, after countback Alan Speechly pipped Chris Moores into second after they both scored 73. Everyone mentioned above was subject to a handicap reduction with the CSS coming in at 74. I very much look forward to taking Lee to Formby on July 21st where hopefully we can progress to the grand final.
Spring Meeting - The juniors played their first major of the year on Sunday. Ewan Mehra claimed top spot with 71, beating runner-up Dan Kitchen on countback, third with 72 was Olly Davies Wilson. In the 12-hole event, Miles Bentley triumphed over Lucas Baldwin.
Ladies Knockout Foursomes - Tuesday saw the first round take place and obviously there are too many matches to report on. However I can tell you that some were very close. One lady who wasn't playing was Lucy Jamieson, the reason being that she was too busy winning the Ladies County Championship at Caldy. This is a fantastic achievement and one that is thoroughly deserved. Well done, Lucy.
Blair Salver - Congratulations to Rick Austin who capped off a fabulous winter by beating Roy Christian in the final of the Blair Salver.
