Thanks to all that attended the Titleist Fitting Day on the range yesterday. Yet again it was a very successful event as a number of people reaped the benefit of being custom fitted for their clubs. Don't forget we have the kit to do fitting in-house so don't think you've missed the boat if you couldn't make it down. Get in touch here to book a fitting.
This week we have taken delivery of a fine range of Oakley sunglasses. With PRIZM technology and interchangeable lenses, these glasses are very versatile and can be used for much more than golf. Please pop in and take a look at the best the trade has to offer. Click here to view their full range.
Now that the weather is improving, it's an ideal time for me to look at your game out on the course. This, after all, is where we are trying to improve. I hear a lot of people around the club talking about those wasted shots and silly mistakes. An on-course lesson is the only way for you to have these assessed. I've recently started work with a pro who has played in the British Open. It's amazing how much he didn't know about his own game so imagine what it may do for you. Get in touch here to try it for yourself.
The Volvo Open in China produced a fitting winner as local boy Li Haotong fired a flawless 64 on Sunday to see off some stiff opposition. It's the Trophy Hassan II this week in Morocco. Watch out for David Horsey who has a terrific record around this course.
Weather delays was the story of the weekend again in the USA, this time in Louisiana as the Zurich Classic needed an extra day to complete. After a three-man playoff, it was American Brian Stuard who triumphed, this is his maiden victory on the main tour.
How about Shan Shan Feng and the wind on her birdie putt in Texas? She was about to tap in for par until a gust blew it about 12 inches into the cup. Easy birdie really. It was Jenny Chin who stole the show though, taking the title.
Congratulations to Jim Eddowes for winning the winter Chris Kenrick series. I tried to tell him it was a mark of consistency throughout the winter, he tried to tell me it was a mark of turning up every week to play. The seniors knockouts have also come to an end. Ray Lawless is king of the singles after a victory in the final over Bob Mottershead. The pairs was won by Peter Rogers and John Trott who beat Colin Jones and Pat Rodgers.
Last Thursday was the final 12-Hole Stableford before today's Trotter commences. Scoring was close but Jeff Bowes managed to pip Gary Lewis on countback after both scored 25, third after another countback was Dave Harland.
Blustery conditions on Saturday meant that the Scramble was a timely event. Scoring is usually low in this fun format and Saturday's was no exception. With a winning score of nett 60.5 were Graham & Ben Dixon and Mike McQueen. Hot on their tails (with only 0.3 handicap to deduct) were Dave Cederholm, Tom Dolan and Elliot Smith with 60.7. Third also with 60.7, on countback, were Pete Cucchi, Mark Gibson and Carl Law.
It was the second Bank Holiday Mixed of the season on Monday as we played a greensomes format. In first place was the duo of Margaret and David Hunt with 35 points, edging ahead of Sue and Dave Pogson in second, and Trevor and Thea Cornford in third.
The Ladies Stableford on Tuesday was played in rather better conditions than of late. Division One was won by Barbara Jamieson with 34 points, runner-up on countback was Angela Starkie from Margaret Hunt in third, both scoring 32 points. Christina Hornsby, teeing off later in the day, made the most of the light to win Division Two with 33 points, one ahead of Bernie Jones and Ruth Walker. 33 points was also the winning score in Division Three for Helen Billington, she was one clear of Jackie Walker in second, and third with 27 was Liz Lewis. Anne Scriven had the highest points total of the day (35) to scoop the Division Four prize, runner-up Lady Captain Alice was three behind. One further back in third was Thea Cornford.
