Last weekend was a big weekend for local sport. Everton's hopes of Champions League football next year took a turn for the worse with a 2-0 defeat at Southampton and Liverpool couldn't get past the bus parked at Anfield by Jose Mourinho, making their position at the top a little less comfortable. It was also a big week for Formby Hall's Tommy Fleetwood. Tommy sees Alan Thompson for his lessons and he finished in a magnificent second place in the Volvo China Open.
The very last winter competition has now ended with David Cederholm and Mike Scullion triumphing over Peter Stokes and Gordon Osborne in the Winter Foursomes.
On Tuesday the Ladies played the first round of their Knockout Foursomes competition. There were some one sided matches but also some very closely fought encounters. Congratulations to all of the pairs who progress into the next round!
The Men's competition on Saturday was the much liked Texas Scramble - many peoples only chance of submitting a gross under par score. Again, some great scoring in this team format with the following teams coping best with the penalty of having to use a minimum of 5 drives each:
1st - Paul Jenkins, Dave Thomas & Malcolm Gilmore - 55.8 Nett
2nd - Sam Austin, Dave Lawless & Carl Law - 57.8 Nett
3rd -Callum Dalton, John Reid & Phil Taylor - 58.5 Nett
The Junior Spring Meeting was played on Sunday and the weather did the title justice. The 18 holers played a Medal and the younger 9 holers playing a Stableford. Congratulations go to:
18 Hole Medal
1st - Jack Dodd - 70 Nett
2nd - Ben Hyatt - 71
3rd - Joe Williamson - 74
9 Hole Stableford
1st - William Hindle - 21 Points
2nd - Jordan Mcdermott 20
3rd - Matt Bowes 20
The Captain and I played our first Challenge match of the year against Mike Hagen and Paul Cottrell last week. It was a fantastic game in which we managed to scrape 2 up. Our second match is today and is against my dad, Neil, and Rick Austin. Having carried me all the way around last week I'm not sure what shape the captains back will be in this afternoon!!
We now have a brand new fleet of buggies complete with ball and club washers and a divot bottle. They are available to hire out at rates of £15 for members and £20 for visitors per round.
