There was a brilliant performance from the Heswall GC scratch team on Tuesday night. After a well-fought out draw last week away at Wallasey, the lads headed to Bromborough. They battled through a continuous four-hour downpour, beating them 3-0 in their own backyard. Tom Dolan & Elliot Smith won 1 up, George Roberts and team Captain Dave Cederholm 2&1, and Ethan Smith & Adam Moore 2&1.
The weather is getting warmer and so are the scores. It was the first Trotter of the year last week and it was the junior captian who triumphed. Tom Kitchen returned a 72 (nett 66) to beat ex-junior captain Jack Dodd on countback after his 69 (nett 66). In third place with 68 was Chris Moores.
The hot scores continued on Saturday in the King George V Cup as Chris Starkie carded a 65 to lift the trophy and the Division Two win. Runner-up in this division was Peter Smith with 72, one ahead of John Kurton in third. Simon Banks won Division One with a nett 68, one ahead of Ben Dixon, Bill Syvret was one further back in third with 70.
The Ladies Open on Tuesday was a successful event despite the weather. Suntan lotion up to lunch time, waterproofs from there on in. Well done to all the volunteers from the ladies section and the starters from the seniors section for running the event.
Morocco is one of those events that gives some lesser-known names the chance to win, and it was Huddersfield's Chris Hanson who was in that position with eight holes to play. In the end it wasn't to be, as Korea's Jeunghun Wang lifted the trophy - making it 7 out of 7 for Callaway - beating Spaniard Elriva in a playoff.
Over at Quail Hollow it was a star-studded field for the Wells Fargo. Rory McIlroy was keen to keep his impressive record up and he didn't disappoint with a T4 finish. Justin Rose had this in the palm of his hand but yet again struggled with the 15 foot putts. In the end, John Hahn beat Roberto Castro in a playoff to clinch the title. On to Sawgrass for the Players Championship this week.
