Pros news

It was a disappointing start to the Euros for us England fans, as we conceded a late equaliser to draw 1-1 in our opening game. But there's still hope. There will be mixed allegiances during today's Trotter event as Wales are our next opponents at 1:30pm.

The European Tour rolled in to the mountains of Austria as Ashun Wu claimed his maiden title with a 13-under-par total. Wu finished one ahead of first round leader Adrian Otaegui.

Over in Memphis, Daniel Berger fought off the challenge of big guns Koepka, Mickelson and Johnson to claim the St.Jude Classic.

This week sees the second Major of the year take place at Oakmont Country Club. We will be cheering on Slattery and Johnston as the US Open commences this evening. Keep scrolling down this newsletter to watch a video which will certainly give you goosebumps.

Shop news

The US Open is a huge event. For those who are rooting for Rory McIlroy, here's what he will be wearing today - click here to view - all of which is available in the shop.

Following on from the shoe trade-in last month, we will be running a similar deal on golf bags for one week only. Trade your old golf bag in for £10/£20 off a new one (depending on price). This offer will be popular so get in as soon as you can as it will only apply to golf bags that are currently in stock.

More grips have gone out this week and yet again they have proved their worth. It's like having a new set of clubs. Pop yours in today for a free assessment.

Members news

The fourball of Iain Colligan, Gavin Cleary, John Kurton and Matthew Holt will once again be playing four rounds in a day across the Wirral, in aid of a young Gayton pupil Henry Adams who is battling cancer. They will begin their day at Wallasey GC around 5:30am and finish on the 18th at Heswall at around 8:00pm on Friday, 24 June. Please show your support for this great cause by donating whatever you can here.

Competition news

Adam Robinson recorded an excellent 74 gross to win last Thursday's Trotter, his nett 67 was enough for a one-shot victory over Thomas Hughes in second and Trevor Starkey Jones in third.

The course benefitted from some rain on Friday and was looking greener for Saturday's Gayton Estates Medal. The scoring was excellent. Allan McMaster won the trophy with a superb 68, beating Stu Kearon on countback, third with a 69 was Mark Prosser. In Division Two, Phil Taylor made some midweek range-work pay off as he scooped the first prize with a 68, Richard Knowlson reaped the benefit of having his clubs shortened in a recent custom fit session to finish second with 70. Gavin Cleary secured third place with a 72. The junior prize was also well contested with Alex Cranston coming out on top after a 68.

In Sunday's Junior Stableford, Ewan Mehra won his first event since becoming a member with 42 points. Runner-up on the day was Dani Kitchen with 41 points, pipping Olly Davies Wilson countback.

The ladies event on Tuesday was a rather glum one weather wise, including a lighting suspension. That didn't deter the winners though. Sophie Jamieson topped Division One with a very fine 71, beating her sister Lucy by three shots, third with 77 was Sue Banks. Stephanie Way was the runaway winner in Division Two with a nett 73, second with 79 was Marilyn Jones and third with 83 was Jan Lyon. Division Three saw Jackie Walker finished first with a nett 76, Sandra Cohen three back in second and Theresa O'Neill third on 81. Christine Fisher was the winner of Division Four with an 81, one clear of Gill Syvret in second with Trisha Lees third on 86.

Four ladies were also competing for the Doris Brown Scratch Trophy. Barbara Jamieson was triumphant in this 36-hole event with a 154 total, three shots clear of Sara Spencer in second.
