Now that the drainage works have finished on 11th and 15th we can all look forward to a disruption free Summer!
Another fabulous weeks Golf to report on, starting with the ladies county matchplay week. Our current Lady Captain Barbara Jamieson and her daughter, Lucy, both progressed nicely through the strokeplay to earn a spot in the matchplay knockout. They then both were narrowly beaten in their first matches however, the story doesn't end there! Once out of the main competition the ladies have the chance to compete for the shield. Both Barbara and Lucy battled through until the semi-final, where, you guessed it, they met each other. What a match it was, Barbara needed an extra hole to beat Lucy and then go on to win the shield in the final. Well done to both of them!
It was a solid week for Heswall's Paul Waring on the European Tour in Singapore last week. Paul posted rounds of 70, 69, 73 & 69 for a total of -7 and a share of 45th place.
Look out for the following regular visitors to Heswall in this week's Madeira Islands Open - Simon Wakefield & Tjaart Van Der Walt.
Last week the Captain and I played our second challenge match - well we walked around whilst Rick Austin and Neil Atkinson gave us a lesson. Although our own Golf was steady, we were struggling a bit giving Neil 11 shots when on the front 9 he had a gross score of 37! When he did only contribute a nett par, Rick duely came in with a birdie and the eventual score was a loss of 3&2, Not sure I'm ever going to live this one down!!
Our Junior Team kicked off their defence of the league title with a 6-2 home victory against Caldy.
The team 'go again' against Wallasey this Sunday. Good luck to all the lads, especially to Ev Demetrios on his debut.
Another Monday and another Mixed Competition and this time it was Greensomes. In testing windy conditions the pair that came out on top with 36 points were Terry Hurst and Maureen Blackham. Second place went to Simon & Sue Banks and in third was Brian Edwards & Kate Dean, both pairs coming in with 35 points.
