Wow. How about that for an Open Sunday? The standard of golf from both Mickelson and Stenson was incredible. If anyone deserves to win a Major it's Henrik, he's been so consistent for years now. It was also a great week for Andy 'Beef ' Johnston; he was the crowd's favourite all week and finished in a very credible 8th place. No doubt you'll see him around the club in the coming weeks with Alan.
There are only two spaces left for my full-day coaching session next Wednesday. I've revised the timings to avoid an event on the 1st tee, so we will now start at 8:45am - click here for the day's plan. If you'd like to reserve one of the final two spots, please give the shop a call on 01513 427431.
Our shirt amnesty promotion still has two weeks to run. It's out with the old and in with the new as you can bin your old shirt and get £10 OFF any new one. Many of the shirts in stock could be seen on the fairways of Troon last week. Ladies shirts are also in the amnesty so make sure you treat yourself next time you're down at the club.
Don't forget you are invited to try a pair of our Oakley sunglasses for a round of golf. You wouldn't think about it but glasses are multi-functional. They give a crystal clear view in the sun, protect your eyes and also minimise the chances of the effects of hayfever. Call us or call in for your FREE trial.
The captain and I suffered our second defeat of the campaign last week to Bob Carter and son-in-law Mark Janikiewicz. Bob was steady as ever but Mark was like a man possessed. Turns out he was after an early finish so he could drive up the motorway to get to Troon on Thursday night. It was a great match. Well done guys, 3&2 was the margin.
As you read this, Lee Pennington and I will be on the back 9 at Formby competing in the regional finals of the Lombard Trophy. See how we got on in next week's newsletter.
You needed something in the 60s to feature in last week's Trotter prizes. Excellent scoring yet again off the yellow tees. Not for the first time this month, a countback was needed to decide the winner. After a lower back nine, Chris Dhenin saw off Peter Vine after a pair of 68s. Chris is getting closer to his goal of having a single-figure handicap and is now off 11.4, whilst Peter is only one shot off category one. In third and continuing his good run was Ben Kelly with a nett 69.
The 4BBB on Saturday also saw some big scores. Maybe the winning pair of Tom & Dan Kitchen should have had a 10% handicap rather than 90% as they recorded a 10-under-par 46 points?! Harry Kennedy and Chris Moores were only one back with 45 points in second, third with the best of the 44s were Peter Rogers & John Trott.
On Monday, the seniors played in basking sunshine for the David Hewitt Cup. With 38 points, John Trott had to rely on his back nine to nick it from Phil Taylor. Two excellent scores there, followed by a solid 36 points by Eddie Byrnes in third.
We thought Monday was hot, then came Tuesday for the Ladies Stableford. Umbrellas were out in force to provide some shade from one of the hottest British days on record. The golf was hot too. In Division One, Barbara Garratt carded a superb 39 points to beat Lucy Jamieson and Judith M Brown who finished second and third by one. Ruth Walker clinched Division Two on countback from Ann-Maria Kitchen with a 34, third on 32 was Wendy Smith. Jackie Walker topped Division Three with 28 points, runner-up on 27 was Helen Bilington, third with 26 was Jean Breckenridge. There were two scores of 35 in Division Four, Sylvia Comer coming out on top over Ann Scriven. Third with 33 was Anne Chadwick.
