Tour news

Crans-Sur-Sierre in Switzerland provides the most scenic back drop of any event on the European Tour. Andrew 'Beef ' Johnston played his first event after a month's break and managed a credible third-placed finish. Scott Hend was tied with Alex Noren on the 72nd tee, but hooked his tee shot into the pines whilst Noren belted one down the fairway. Hend then went for the green, hit it low and bounced it over the water hazard. After two putts from Noren and a great chip from Hend, it was back down the 18th for a sudden death play-off. One thing Hend wasn't going to do again was snap hook it into the pines, or was he?! He hit it 100 yards off the tee leaving 226 into the green, having hit it to the fringe and not holed the chip, Noren holed a 40 foot putt to claim the title and the €450,000 first prize.

Paul Casey - having opted against playing in this year's Ryder Cup - found himself with the 54-hole lead over in America. Come the final day it was Rory McIlroy who was starting to find his form again, whilst Casey's nerves showed as he carded a 2-over-par round. Rory was quite the opposite, a final round of six-under-par securing him a much-needed victory.

Competition news

The penultimate Trotter was played last Thursday. Bob Mottershead has been working like mad on his swing on the range of late and it finally paid off; a superb score of 65 earning him the win.

There was some wet weather around for Saturday's Texas Scramble, however a couple of hours on the squeegee and we managed to keep the event running. Mark Dewhurst, Steve Skupski & Neil Stephenson were glad we did as they took top spot, their score of 60.8 beating Iain Colligan, Paul Hogan & John Kurton on countback. Third with 61.8 were Paul Jamieson, Simon Banks & Mike Roberts.

Sunday's Two Generations Trophy was a sell out with all 18 holes occupied in the shotgun start. Foursomes is always a tricky event but the prize of having your name on the honours board with a family member keeps the concentration levels up. This year's winners with a score of 70.5 were Graham & Ben Dixon, runners-up with 71.5 were Paul & Daniel Ince.

The ladies competed for their Autumn Meeting Trophy on Tuesday. In Division One, Lucy Jamieson topped the list yet again with a superb 2-under-par gross for a 70 nett. Continuing her good run was Anna Webster with 73 for second place, beating Heather Ensor on countback. Maureen Blackham also broke par to win Division Two with a nett 70, runner-up with 76 was Steff Way. In third was Marilyn Jones. Jackie Walker wasn't to be outdone in Division Three as another superb 69 was the winning score. A 75 saw Christine Hancock taking second spot, ahead of Pat Sheen in third. In Division Four, Thea Cornford returned her best ever score as she went round in 69 to waltz to victory. Runner-up with a 78 was Gillian Syvrett, third on the same score was Sylvia Comer. After all the calculations it was Thea who lifted the trophy on a card play-off from Jackie.

Club news

The captain and past captains enjoyed a great week away in Durham last week. This picture is on their final day, having played at Wynard Golf Club, Durham City GC & Ramside Hall.

There are some new leaders in the Captain & Pro Challenge as David Cleland & Peter Swarbrick dove tailed brilliantly to see us off by a 5&4 margin. We continued our losing streak on Tuesday as Matt Bowes and Jason Dransfield (yes, our assistant pro) beat us 1 up. We hope to get back to winning ways on Thursday when we face tough opposition in the shape of Bryan Baldwin & Carl Law.

Shop news

Congratulations to Jason who finished second in the PGA North Assistants Championship at Dore & Totley GC, meaning he finished second in the Assistants order of merit for 2016.

We are quickly selling out of Nike and Titleist 2016 fairway woods. I am now selling off the Titleist 915 drivers. These were on the shelf at £349 at the start of the season. I have three left at £199. Please ring up or email me here if you'd like to reserve one.

There are now some excellent deals to be had on all of the summer stock, gents and ladies. Even if you don't need any as we speak, you probably will next year. All sale items will be on the rails in the shop.
