The golf course is looking as good as I've ever seen it in my 15 years here, huge credit to Guy Cannings and his team. Let's keep it this way as members by repairing our pitch marks and replacing our divots.
Don't forget to pick up a divot bag from outside the shop before you start, you can fill it up on the way around!
Last week I mentioned how our male European Tour players have been progressing nicely out in Europe.
This week I'm delighted to report on a superb top 25 finish for Rachael Goodall in her maiden tour event at Gams Werdernburg Golf Club in Switzerland. Rachael carded rounds of 73, 69 and 78 to share 24th place. Anyone wanting to congratulate Rachel, you will find her camped on the old 6th hole for most of the day, every day!
The Seniors hosted Bidston Golf club this week and ran out convincing 7.5-2.5 winners. Although the Bidston gents were beaten they had nothing but praise for our golf course!
The Ladies were on duty to welcome ladies from all over the county for the Open on Tuesday, a fantastic time was had by all. Nearest the pin on 7th, nearest the line on 13 and two's prizes to add to the main prizes were won by a diverse range of handicaps. Again, nothing but praise for our golf course.
The first Trotter was played in mixed weather last Thursday, and we were greeted with the first "oh god it's not a medal is it?" comments of the season. Scoring was good despite the conditions and winning with a nett 68 was John Reid. Second place went to the ever consistent Rick Austin with 71 and third, proving his lessons haven't been a waste of time, was Dave Green with a 72. Matt Way took the lowest gross with a 76.
Saturday was the King George V Cup off the white tees. Division 1 saw Carl Law top the field with a nett 72 despite his early 7.08 tee time! Steve Skupski and Ryan Hanna will both know which putt it was that cost them as they both carded a 73 for second and third places, respectively.
Division 2 was also a close affair, winning on a back 9 play off was Andy Green who has reassured me that it has "been close" for a while - his 73 was better in the end than John Smith's who was runner up. Third place went to Geoff Alexander with a 74. With the standard scratch being 75 on the day, Phil Wilcox's lowest gross of 72 was a fine effort!
The practice ground is now fully operational.
The majority of range passes bought last year are now due for renewal so please ask in the shop next time you are in. A mere observation here but 80% of practice time is being spent hitting long irons, rescue woods and drivers. 80% of people have the same weakness - it's from 100 yards and in. Make sure you are practising your weaknesses, not your strengths!
If you really want to sharpen up on your weaknesses this season then why not have a lesson with either myself or Danny?
We can spot your faults and help you on your way to the top of the leaderboard! Click here to view what lessons are available at Heswall.
