The Captain and I have played two challenge matches since I last reported.
Last Tuesday we overcame a barrage of shots to beat Norman Waddell and Cliff Gent with the blue tees taking its tole on the lads in the end. This Tuesday, agaist Alan Jones and Bryan Baldwin, having been 2 up and then 2 down, we went to the last hole with a 1up lead. My tee shot finished on the green and Alan Jones had a slippery 15 footer down the hill for birdie. You guessed it - I three putted for par and he holed for birdie. Great game.
The Ladies Spring Meeting on Tuesday could have been a wash out after Monday's storm, however the forecast of rain and more rain and more rain was wrong.
Scoring in this Medal format was excellent with Division 1 being won by Rachael Maitland with a superb 81-7=74. Second, and always in the prizes, was Heather Ensor with a 75 nett with Lady Captain Barbara one shot further back in third. The top two in Division 2 both finished with a nett 76, but taking top spot on count back was Wendy Smith with Sheila Scott in second. In third place, with a nett 79, was Irene Scott.
The Division 3 winner was Jackie Banks with a nett 77, second with nett 78 was Steff Way and in third was Barbara Stokes. In Division 4 Hilary Sharpe took top spot with a nett 77. Second was Gill Cooper in second with a better 80 than Theresa O'Neill who came in third.
Saturday was a more gentle affair with a 4BBB Stableford. It was like playing golf in the south of France, suncream and shorts everywhere. The low handicap pairing of John McNeill and Charlie Berry took top spot on a card play off right back to the 4th hole from Ross Cornford and Colin Cubley, both had 43 points. In third place with 42 was Andy Nolan and Jonty Trott. The fabulous conditions were reflected in the two's sweep with 20 being recorded.
Saturday the 7th June is our first Invitation Day. The list in the men's locker room is filling up but there are still some spaces. The course is in the best condition it has been in for years, an ideal time to show it off to visitors!
Our low handicappers all competed in the County matchplay at Bramhall Golf club. The best finish was from Ollie Carr reaching the quarter finals, beating James Hornsby on his way.
