April showers have come very late this year, in fact I think we had the whole month's worth on Saturday!
There are still a few spaces left for the Men's Invitation on June 7th and for the festival of golf events.
The first Blue Tee Medal of the year was abandoned on Saturday due to waterlogged greens, much to the dismay of Junior Jonty Trott who, as I approached him on the 14th green with claxon in hand, said to me 'please don't blow that thing, I'm one under with 4 to play'. Sorry Jonty, you will have the chance to replicate this when the competition is replayed next month.
The mixed competitions have been coming thick and fast over the last few weeks. On Monday it was the mixed team event. The winners were Brian Edwards, Pat Sheen, Brian Currie and Kate Dean with 82 points. Second was Simon & Sue Banks and Chris & Christine Hornsby who came in with 78 pts.
A much dryer affair on Tuesday for the Ladies in their Charles Craig Trophy. Charlotte Bilton headed the field with a superb nett 71, some humble pie for Charlotte having listened to the Pro's advice about chip and runs around the green. Runner-up in Div 1, taking advantage of the half-term break, was Lucy Jamieson with a 76 which pushed her mum's 77 into third place.
Another two Ladies to profit from the half-term break were Anna Webster who, with a 74, won Division 2 on a card play off from Christina Hornsby. Chris Lloyd was in the prizes again with a trird placed 80. It was Pat Sheen who was the best in Div 3 after another card playoff, this time from Marg Nicholas, both one better than Gillian Syvrett's 77 in third. Alka Tank, Kath Grainger and Rose Dhenin were on the podium in Division 4 with 77, 79, and 81, respectively.
Last Thursday's Trotter produced some good numbers again with Pete Vine taking first place with a season best nett 70. Second was Brian Robson on a card playoff from Jay Tank in third, both also with nett 70. Some good handicap reductions there with a comp SS of 73!
A four-man team came runners up in the MockBeggar Trophy at Leasowe on Sunday. The team, consisting of Graham Dixon 32, Ben Dixon 36, Mike McQueen 34 and Jon Little 35, missed out on first place by 5 points to Bidston Golf club.
Congratulations to everyone mentioned here this week!
It was nice to see so many juniors in attendance for the Fun Day yesterday. Myself, Danny and Charlie Berry were on hand to run a few different fun games over the short game areas. Congratulations to Daniel Kitchen who accumulated 39 points over the 3 disciplines which was the most on the day. Runner up with 37, after a sudden death playoff against Elizabeth Hyatt, was Josh Gow.
My Cobra Golf Demo Day was a success with all slots being booked. 8 people took advantage of the free Trackman session and were pleasantly surprised by their findings. Watch out for more of these during the summer!
We have just taken delivery of the new Summer collection from both Nike Golf and Galvin Green so please come in and take a look next time you are at Heswall.
