Last week was the first event of 2017 for the pros with the US tour players heading to Hawaii for the tournament of champions. Hideki Matsuyama continued his good form going into the last round just 2 off the pace. Justin Thomas hit a 404 yard drive on Saturday, Jordan Speith was rolling in the putts as usual. On Sunday evening it was Justin Thomas who lifted the trophy with a total of 22 under par. The PGA tour stays in Hawaii this week while the European tour restarts at Glendower for the SA Open.
The Midweek Stablefords on Thursday were well contested last week, Peter Brown topped the men's event with 29, pipping Adrian Wright and Andy Green, both with 28.
It was the same winning score for Helen Billington in the ladies competition, one clear of Anne Scriven in second, with Wendy Smith third on 27.
The gents 4BBB 12 Hole Stableford had to be cancelled on Saturday due to some stubborn fog. The course was closed until around 11:00am for safety reasons but members enjoyed some good social golf once it reopened.
The ladies braved the elements for an informal 12 Hole Stableford on Tuesday. In division one Barbara Garratt pipped Christina Hornsby by one, scoring with 23 points, Clare Palmer was third with 21. Marilyn Jones carded a level par 24 points to take division 2, Wendy Smith was the runner up with 23, and third with 22 was Annmaria Kitchen. Ala Lloyd was the runaway winner in division 3 with 24, 3 clear of Pat Platt in second, third with 20 was Irene Scott. Christine Fisher topped division 4 with 19 points, second with 18 was Gill Syvret, third, also with, 18 was Anne Fisher.
Well done to Helen Billington for scoring the only '2' of the day.
