Greetings golfers,

It was a fairytale story down in South Africa this week for Graeme Storm, who lost his card last year only to be reprieved after Partick Reed hadn't played enough events. The 'journeyman' found himself leading after 54 holes and playing on the last day with Rory McIlroy. There was nothing to choose between them after 72 holes where Storm saw off one of the greatest players ever to lift the trophy at Glendower.

Justin Thomas really is on top form this year already. His opening round of 59 in Hawaii set him on his way to a second victory in as many starts in the Sony Open, Can anyone catch him?

Competition news

January Winter Stableford

The seniors played their January Winter Stableford last Thursday. Not to be outdone by Justin Thomas' last few results, Peter Brown also made it 2 wins from 2 starts with a superb 40 points. Runner up with 38 was Steve Chantler, with Dave Holgate carding the best of a host of 37s.

Ladies Midweek Stableford

The Ladies Midweek Stableford was won by Wendy Smith with a level par 24, runner up with 18 was Liz Grayson.

Ladies 12 Hole Stableford

The ladies battled around the first 12 holes in a stableford competition on Tuesday. In division one, Clare Palmer was the only palyer under par with a winning 25 points, runner up with 23 was Christina Hornsby, third with 21 was Sue Totty.

A card playoff was needed to separate Pam Holden and Liz Grayson at the top of division two, Pam's 24 just edged it. Third with 23 was Marilyn Jones.

Ann Scriven stormed to victory in division three with 28 points, 3 back in second was Alka Tank, and third with 24 was Jean Breckenridge.

There was another count back in division four on 25 points, Mary Holgate coming out ahead of Margaret Nicholas, third with 23 was Thea Cornford.

Winter league

No fog on Saturday meant the Winter League went ahead. There were some superb scores in both leagues.

In the Chris Kenrick, Mike Roberts took top spot on card countback with 42 points, the unlucky runner up was John Reid, third with 40 was Dave Holgate (again!).

In the Blair Salver, Paul Jamieson recorded 7 birdies and just one bogey for a phenomenal 6 under par gross and 45 points. Rick Austin also had a more than steady round of 41 points to come second. Third with 37 was Peter Vine.
