What a week in Abu Dhabi for Tommy Fleetwood as he held off the challenge of Dustin Johnson, Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson to claim his second tour title. Tommy is now almost ranked in the top 50 in the world which would gain him entry into the WGC events and the major championships, credit to Alan Thompson who has been pivotal in his rebirth. Keep an eye on him this week in Qatar where he will be hoping for more of the same.
There was another 59 in the US last week as Adam Hadwin recorded 13 birdies and 5 pars, but it was Hudson Swafford from Georgia who hung on for his maiden tour title as he lifted the Career Builder Challenge trophy at La Quinta. It's on to Torrey Pines for this week's event, all eyes will be on Tiger Woods as he continues his comeback.
The ladies Midweek Stableford on Thursday was yet again a close contest. Wendy Smith beati Helen Billington on a countback after they both scored 24 points. A four under par 28 was the winning score in the men's section for Phil Carlisle. Runner up was John Body with 27, third also with 27 was Neil Scott.
There was an 18 Hole Stableford on Saturday, Dave Cederholm only needed 31 shots on the back nine for a round of 43 points on his way to victory. Simon Banks also returned 43 but was runner up on countback. Third with 41 was Shay Keogh. In division 2 there was another card countback on 41 points between the winner David Pennington and runner up Calum Dalton, third with 38 was Bob Carter.
It was a chilly 12 Hole Team Event for the ladies on Tuesday. The format was stableford with 2 scores to count on each hole. The winning team with 54 points were Ann Scriven, Christine Hancock & Wendy Smith, with 52 points, in second were Clare Palmer, Kate Sparre-Dean & Marg Hunt, and third with 51 were Cherry Coates, Eileen Kilgannon & Sandy Cooper.
