Tour news

The European tour headed to Qatar for the second leg of the desert swing. There were some impressive finishes from our English players again with Jordan Smith and Chris Hanson both finishing strongly, 72 holes wasn't enough to decide who was the winner however and a 3 way play off ensued. Jeunghun Wang, Jaco Van Zyl and Joakim Lagergren all headed back to the par 5 18th. Van Zyl carded a 3 putt par, Lagergren couldn't up and down for birdie but Wang could, earning him his second tour victory.

In the US it was the Farmers Insurance classic at Torrey Pines. American Brandt Snekeder was aiming to make it a hatrick of wins in this event and was well positioned to do so after 54 holes. It wasn't to be as the impressive Spaniard John Rahm marched to his maiden PGA tour victory.

Competition news

It was another chilly stableford on Thursday, this was reflected in the scoring as there were no 31's, 30's or even close. There were, however, 3 superb scores of level par 24, the winner was Bob Mottershead, with runner up Trevor Starkey Jones and third place John Reid. In the ladies event 22 points was enough for Anne Scriven to claim top spot, runner up with 20 was Kath Grainger.

It was another round of the Winter League on Saturday. Plus 2 handicapper Charlie Berry was throwing darts in the Blair Salver as he nothched up 7 birdies and no dropped shots for 41 points, runner up was Neil Stevenson with 40, edging out Pete Vine on a card countback. In the Chris Kenrick, Richard Knowlson parred the last for 40 points to pip Nick Brown by a shot. Third with another 39 was Trevor Starkey Jones.

Tuesday was another cold and wet 12 hole stableford for the ladies. Division one was very tight. Clare Palmer was victorious with a one under par 25, one behind with 24 was Kate Sparre-Dean, and third with 23 was Margaret Hunt. There were 3 scores of 22 in division two, coming out on top was AnneMaria Kitchen ahead of Theresa O'Neill in second and Barbara Chesworth in third. Ala Lloyd was the runaway winner in division 3 with 25 points, runner up with 22 was Brenda Dooney, and third with 21 was Anne Scriven. A level par 24 saw Thea Cornford top division four, runner up with 23 was Barbara Stokes, third with 21 was Kath Grainger
