Tour news

The European Tour had its annual visit to Malaysia last week for the Maybank Championship. Lee Westwood was looking to add to his impressive far eastern collection of trophies, he put up a good show but didn't give himself a chance going into Sunday. Danny Willett however saw himself with a 5 shot lead with 18 to play. His final round of +1 wasn't what he was after as Paraguayan Fabrizio Zanotti stormed through the field with a 63 to lift the impressive tiger head trophy.

There was the usual fun and games over on the west coast of America for the AT&T Pro-am. Pebble beach, Monterey & Spyglass hosted not only the best golfers but also a selection of the world's top entertainers and business people, from the CEO of TaylorMade to Justin Timberlake, who's golf was impressive. Not quite as impressive as the professional winner however as Jordan Spieth kept the chasing pack at bay with a barrage of final round birdies.

There was also a win for English girl Melissa Reid as she won the Victoria Open down in Australia on the Ladies European tour.

Competition news

On possibly the coldest day of the year a number of people still battled on to claim the 12 Hole Midweek StablefordGeoff Kimpton kept his hands the warmest to win the gents event with 29 points, runner up was Steve Sutton who's 28 beat Gary Lewis on countback.  Christine Hancock took the ladies event with 24 points, one back in second was AnnMaria Kitchen with Wendy Smith third with 21.

The Blair Salver Winter League is in its latter stages with everyone jostling for the top 8 matchplay places. This week's results were once again tight. The winner on Saturday with 40 points was Sam Austin, runner up with 39 was Peter Vine, beating Dave Cederholm on countback.  The Chris Kenrick was won by Marcus White in his first game this year, he carded an impressive 41 points. There was another countback for second on 40 points as Martin Battishill edged out Mark Leat.

The ladies played a Valentines Waltz team event on Tuesday, teams of 3.  There was a clear winner as Clare Palmer, Barbara Garratt and Kate Spare Dean scored a superb 50 points. The runner up was decided on card countback in favour of Thea Cornford, Ros Osborne & Jaquai Hynes as their 46 was just better than that of Margaret Nicholas, Margaret Hunt & Jayne Dixon in third.

New arrivals

Leading the way

Last week I was anticipating the launch of the new Galvin Green C Knit Technology, which will be worn by the European Ryder Cup Team in Paris next year.

Well this week it landed and it has not disappointed, the quality is evident and it's their lightest jacket ever. Come in and see for yourself. I only have a limited stock available so don't miss out.

Everything's changing

Titleist have just launched their latest Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls. The lads and I have had some training on it this week and there's some big changes.

I won't give them all away but remember when Walkers swapped the colours of their Cheese and onion and salt and vinegar crisp packets?

Special offer RED

Who can say no to a free grip?

Since launching the FREE grip promotion last week we have been on a gripathon in the shop, members are starting to realise the effect of new grips. One member going as far as saying his new grip has stopped his slice, surely not? Well quite possibly yes ! If you don't need to grip it as tightly your hands and arms can be more passive in the swing allowing your body to do the work, leading to better lines and a stronger club path! The promotion is still running so come and take advantage now.

Click here for more info on why you should be re-gripping.
