The European Tour tried something a little different last week in Perth with the ISPS Handa Super 6 where 3 rounds of strokeplay were played before matchplay on the last day. Having lost his card last year an emotional Brett Rumford claimed the title on home soil earning himself an exemption for another 18 months.
The weather hit the west coast of America hard last week as the best in the world played the Genesis Open at Riviera. All eyes were on one man, the only man who could knock Jason Day off the top of the world rankings, that man duly delivered, that man was Dustin Johnson who was streets ahead of the rest of the field finishing 5 ahead on -17.
The seniors played another round of their Winter Stableford series last Thursday. Top of the list with 42 points was Gary Lewis, second with 41 was Adrian Wright, third with 40, pipping John Reid on countback, was Andy Green. All four players here seeing the benefits of regular coaching over the winter.
In the Ladies Stableford Anne Scriven carded a 4 under par 28 to beat Helen Billington and Bernie Jones by 2.
There was an individual Winter Stableford on Saturday with a full field playing. There was a very welcome return to form for John West in division one as he scored an excellent 42 points, runner up with 40 was Peter Vine, third on 39 was Dave Green. Brian Dhenin was division 2's victor with 40, runner up on countback with 38 was Jim Rymer, third was Marcus White.
The juniors played a 12 Hole Comp on Sunday. There was a good turn out as most of them were looking forward to their term. James Lemon really enjoyed himself as he romped to a 7 point victory. His score of 28 seeing off Matty Bowes (21) and Ewan Mehra (20).
The ladies also played a 12 holer on Tuesday. It was nice to see Ros Osborne top the list in division one with 24 points, Clare Palmer was runner up with 23 beating Sue Banks on countback. Scoring was excellent in division 2, Wendy Smith handing in the best of the lot with 29, runner up with 28 was Jackie Walker, Sue Pogson was third with 27. Ann Scriven continued her good form to win division 3 with 24, second place went to Brenda Dooney with 23, Jaqui Hynes was third with 22. There's no stopping Thea Cornford who was at it again in division 4, this time with a winning score of 28, one back in second was Sue Lovell, third with 24 was Sue Jones.

Aiming for a younger demographic The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.
