Tour news

The Shell Houston Open was the last chance to get into the Masters for those who already hadn't. In a weather affected event which looked like being cut to 54 holes it was American Russell Henley who had 10 birdies in the final round to claim a four shot victory and an Augusta ticket.

Competition news

In last week's news I had mentioned that the Chris Kenrick Trophy has now come to an end but didn't tell you who had won. After a hard fought winter season, Martin Battishill came out on top showing that he was the most consistent player throughout.

Well done to the Heswall Scratch Team for winning the Jubilee Cup at Prenton on Sunday. In a best 6 from 8 gross scores to count event the team of Tom Dolan, Charlie Berry, Jon Little, James Hornsby, Joe Williamson, Adam Moore, Michael McQueen and scratch team captain Dave Cederholm came out on top. Great start to the season!

Phil Taylor was Thursday's Midweek Stableford winner with 28 points, Frank Gill was runner up with 27, knocking Trevor Starkey Jones into third on the same score. Rose Dhenin topped the list for the ladies with 25 points, Chris Hancock was in second with 24.

The winter competitions have finished now, the first spring one was a gent's 4BBB Stableford. We have seen some great scores over the last few months with the shortened course but Saturday's topped the lot. With a colossal score of 50 points, Phil Taylor & Martin Battishill were the winners, but only by one as Dave Thomas & Malcolm Gilmore carded 49 in second, third with 47 were John Trott & Peter Rogers.

The ladies had a windy but glorious day on Tuesday for their Foursomes Stableford and there was a tie at the top on 37, a countback was needed, Clare Palmer & Barbara Chesworth ended up pipping Marilyn Jones & Margaret Nicholas, in third with 35 were Pauline Darbyshire & Pam Holden.

On Tuesday night Shay Keogh & Dave Cederholm progressed into the next round of the Daily Mail Foursomes with a 5&4 victory over Brackenwood. Well done chaps!
