Greetings golfers,
It's often known as the 5th major, and it didn't disappoint. The 2017 Players championship was yet again a highly entertaining event, Vijay Singh rolled back the clock to earn a late tee time on Sunday, Rafa Cabrera-Bello recorded the first ever albatross at the 16th and, as expected, there were numerous balls finding the water on 17! The overall winner may have been a surprise to many; however, if you wanted to emulate a golf swing you would be hard pushed to find a better one than Si Woo Kim. His excellent final round of 69 saw off Louis Oosthuizen and the rejuvenated Ian Poulter.
Trotter Series
The Trotter Series is now underway for 2017. Assuming its new Stableford format means it will be as popular as ever. With 39 points the winner was Gary Lewis, runner up with 38 was Jack Dodd, Stu Kearon was third, also with 38.
King George V Cup
Saturday was the first medal of the season for the gents as they played for the King George V Cup. There was a strong showing from the category one players in Division One. Josh Dixon beat Mike McQueen on countback after they both scored 70, in third, just one back, was Jack Dodd. The outright winner of the cup however was Richard McNeil who's 68 won Division Two by 4 shots from Marcus White in second and Jeff Bowes in third.
Look out for the tee time extensions in the Saturday medals, they are now open for booking from 7am-3.30pm. After the longest day they will start to reduce again.
Ladies Spring Meeting
The ladies first medal of the year was the 'not so' Spring Meeting. Rain grip gloves and brollies were best sellers on this overcast day.
In Division One there was a family battle as Lucy, playing off 1, took on mum Barbara Jamieson , playing off 2; both finished with a nett 71, Barbara winning on countback. Third with 74 was Bette St John. Wendy Smith was the winner of Division Two with a 75, runner up was Sheila Scott on 76, third with 77 was Steff Way. Division Three was also close, Anne Scriven coming out on top with 80, ahead of Sandra Cohen with 81 and Jaquai Hynes with 82. There was a runaway winner of Division Four, a 72 for Anne Chadwick was 8 shots better than Sue Jones in second, third with 81 was Chris Fisher.
