Greetings golfers,
The beautiful Vedura was the setting for this week's European Tour event. There were some fast starts on day one, including Lee Slattery who opened with a seven under round. Lots of players were under par throughout the week but it was Spain's Alvaro Quiros who had a more than welcome return to the winners' circle after quite a number of years of inconsistency in his game. Over the water in the US it was the Byron Nelson Classic. After a close tournament all week it came down to the 72nd hole where John Hahn lipped out from 120 yards to just miss the playoff which was between Jason Day and Billy Horschel. After heading to the par 4 18th for the first playoff hole, Day made a bogey 5 and Horschel a par 4 to take the title.
Trotter 2
Trotter 2 was played on Thursday and the scoring went through the roof. Both Brian Edwards and Matthew Bowes having their best 18 holes ever, Brian carded a gross +1 for 44 points, Matthew's -1 gross also for 44 points was the winner on countback. Third with 41 was Daniel Ince.
Spring Meeting, Lombard Trophy & Yellow Tee Stableford
On Saturday there was much to play for, the Spring Meeting, Lombard Trophy Regional Final and the Yellow Tee Stableford.
Division One was won by Graham Small who, with a 69, got his handicap to single figures for the first time ever. This also qualifies him for the Lombard Trophy Regional Final with myself at Sandiway next month. Runner up was last year's Lombard Qualifier, Dave Lawless, who had 71, third with 72 was Junior Captain John Kitchen who wins the Junior Prize, meaning Sam Austin comes third in this division with his 73.
In Division Two Tom Hestletine made the most of a recent on course lesson to record his first Heswall victory with a 75, ahead of Trevor Starkey Jones with the same score in second, third with 76 was Russ Favager.
37 people played the Yellow Tee Stableford. John Body was the winner with 41, ahead of Geoff Alexander on the same score in second, third was Ade Wright with 36.
Seniors Invitation
The Seniors hosted their guests for the Annual Invitation on Monday, the course yet again proved hugely popular with the visitors. The winning pair with 45 points were Brian Edwards and Chris Beamish.
Ladies Medal
Suncream galore on Tuesday for the ladies and their medal competition. Once again in Division One it was the Jamieson show, there's a real battle for supremacy going on between Barbara and Lucy. 37 points and first place for Barbara and a handicap now of 0.9, 35 points, the runner's up spot for Lucy and a handicap of 0.8, third was Lady Captain Heather with 35.
In Division Two Wendy Smith carried on her good run of form with a 39 point haul to take top spot, runner up with 38 was Jackie Walker, third with 37 was Karen Counchman. Map Your Gaps For Lower Scores
On Monday I used a new update in the Swing Room to do our first ever 'Bag Mapping' session. This is a great feature that teaches you your carry distances and gap between clubs. We can calibrate it to your bag for a unique experience. We can help you through it or just leave you to go through the session yourself. Monday's session showed us how the shorter hitting clubs had a much more consistent gap between them than the longer ones, which is the best way to be as this is the scoring zone.
Get in touch here to book your session or if you have any questions.
