Fleetwood Is The Real Deal
He's at it again! Tommy Fleetwood showed no fear as he claimed the French Open at Paris National golf club. There were some tough customers hunting him down, the in form Uilhein, Lee Westwood and Thomas Pieters to name a few. Some top level ball striking and superb distance putting however meant he clinched his 3rd European Tour title and regained top spot in the Race to Dubai.
Trotter 8
Trotter 8 was a windy one but again scoring was good, for Phil Boon it was excellent as he carded a faultless round of 41 points to claim victory, runner up with 39 was James Smethurst, third with 38 was Colin Jones.
Ball Cup
Saturday was the second round of the Ball Cup off the blue tees. The first round leaders were eager to get off to a good start in the second leg. The round 2 winner from division one was Sam Burford with a nett 70, runner up with 71 was Carl Law and third with 72 was Jim Eddowes.
In division two Peter Kirkham topped the list with his 74, Callum Dalton was second on 77 with Brendan Bilton third on 78.
The overall 36 hole Ball Cup was extremely close, but in the end a score of 146 for Ben Dixon sealed the victory by one shot ahead of a number of people in second place.
In the alternative Yellow Tee Stableford the forward tees were reflected in the scoring. Geoff Kimpton triumphing with a 40 point haul, one ahead of Dave Thomas in second with John West in third on 37.
The Matrimonial Cup
The Matrimonial Cup was played on Sunday, mixed foursomes medal is a very tough format but scoring was good. The winning couple with a nett 72.5 was Brian & Rose Dhenin, just 0.5 of a shot behind were Hywel & Sue Jones with Dave & Barb Garratt one further back in third.
Ladies 4BBB
The ladies played a 4 ball better ball on Tuesday, the course was in superb condition and the weather was favourable. With a magnificent score of 45 points the winning pair were Barbara Garratt & Marg Hunt, runners up with 43 were Dawn Hodge & Barbara Eyres, third with 42 were Gill Syvret & Pauline Norcott.
Open Qualifying
Commiserations to Sandeep Grewal, on Tuesday, who narrowly missed out on a spot at Royal Birkdale. Having started his first round at Hillside with 3 bogies in the first 5, he had a resurgent back nine and completed the round in just 69 shots. His second round of 72 left him only 3 shots shy of a top 3 finish and an Open ticket. Great effort!
