That's it, the final major of the year is over. Quail Hollow was a great host and many of the world’s top 10 didn't produce their best. Some lesser known players excelled, propelling themselves up the rankings. In-form Hideki Matsuyama was pushing all of the way, Molinari had a great final round, Oousthuizen completed a grand slam of major second places but it was the young American Justin Thomas who nipped in to steal the Wanamaker trophy.

The Trotter on Thursday last week yet again produced some superb scores. None better than Mark Gibson's, Mark was inspired by his team’s second place finish in the Scramble last week. On his own this time he cruised in with a winning 44 points, second and subject of another handicap chop was John Dolan on 42 points, third was Elliot Hawe who has been threatening a good score after a very consistent run over the last few weeks.

It was the QE 2 Salver white tee medal on Saturday, standard scratch was 73. Neil Scott took the title and division one with a 67, runner up with 69 was Matthew Bowes, third also with 69 was Lance Flor. Neil Atkinson was the winner of division two with a nett level 73, runner up with 74 was Russ Favager, third on countback was Tom Grace.

Evdokios Demetrious won the junior summer meeting on Sunday with a score of 69, Matthew Bowes was runner up and in-form Olly Davies Wilson, who was off 24 three weeks ago, is now down to 13 after a third place finish.


The ladies played a trio team event on Tuesday and the conditions were perfect. With a score of 72 points, the winning team were Barbara Garratt, Brenda Dooney & Alka Tank. Runners up with 71 were Christina Hornsby, Sue Banks & Sue Jones, third on the same score were Barbara Eyers, Sue Trott & Marilyn Jones.

The Heswall scratch team under the captaincy of Dave Cederholm finished runners up to Bromborough. In the final match of the season, at home to Caldy on Tuesday night, the team won 2-1, Adam Moore & Ethan Smith won 6&4, Jon Little & Derek Eason won 2up, Elliot Smith & Dave Cederholm lost 2&1.
