Greetings golfers,

Lee Westwood and Close House hosted an absolutely brilliant British Masters last week. It has to be one of the best tournaments I have watched for a long while. And how about the last round and last shot in particular for winner Paul Dunne? A chip in ‘2’ for a closing 61 to beat Rory by 3 shots, the young Irish man bagging himself over €500,000 in the process.

Over at Liberty National golf club in New York, the American squad made it 7 straight victories in the Presidents Cup, this one was very impressive against an extremely strong international squad

Midweek Stableford

The Midweek stableford on Thursday was played in glorious conditions, David Williams certainly enjoyed his round, carding an unstoppable 43 points to take top spot, runner up with 38 was Owen Chambers, third with 37 was Callum Dalton. In the ladies event Helen Billington topped the list with 28, runner up with 26 was Theresa O’Neill.


St Andrews Meeting

In a rain affected St Andrews meeting on Saturday the golf course yet again drained extremely well. With a suspension in play we managed to get everyone around before dark.

Alan Jones was keen for us to do so as his early morning posting of 71 stood firm all day clinching him the division one and overall title. Runner up with a 72 was Andrew Kitchen, third with 73 was Stu Kearon.
Russell Favager won division two with a 79, John Body beat David Holgate to the runner up spot on countback after a pair of 80’s.


Yellow Tee Stableford

John Farrell, another early starter, won the yellow tee stableford with 35 points, Ray Parsons teed off in the afternoon and came second with 34, third was Leo Baldwin with 32, who took the junior prize, Mark Dunbar was also third with the same score.


Ladies Medal

It was also the last medal for the ladies on Tuesday as they contested the St.Andrews meeting. Kate Sparre-Dean was top of division one with a 79, runner up with 30 was Christina Hornsby, third with 81 was Barbara Jamieson. Alka Tank scooped division two but more importantly the St Andrews trophy itself with a 78, losing on countback were Sheila Scott in second and Jo Ratcliffe in third. Jaquai Hynes won division three with an 81, second with 82 was Sylvia Comer, third with 85 was Irene Scott.  Thea Cornford won division four, again, with a 79, ahead of Brenda Dooney, also on 79 and Sandra Cohen with 82.


Captain/Pro Update

The Captian and I managed a 5&4 victory against Rick Austin and my dad Neil last week, we have just one more match to play, a 4&3 win is the target for Paul and Dan Ince to beat.

The lady Captain and I kept up our 100% winning streak with a 2 up victory over Alice Rogers and Sandra Cohen on Thursday.
