Greetings golfers,

The Dunhill links trophy is played at 3 of Fife’s finest courses, St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie. Tommy Fleetwood was at it again, last year he shot 62 at the Old Course for a course record. This year he shot 63 at Carnoustie for another course record. Scoring went mad on Sunday, Ross Fisher had a putt from the valley of sin for a 59 and eventually recorded a new course record 61. The celeb pro-am event is one of the best weeks of the year (apart from the 6 hour rounds). Tyrell Hatton played flawless golf from start to finish to lift the trophy for a second year running with a 24 under par total.

The Safeway Open kicked off the 2018 PGA tour season, it was a good job it finished on time as wild fires swept the course on Monday taking a lot of the tented village with them. Brendan Steele defended his title and got his season off to the perfect start. Phil Mickelson showed some form to finish third, he always seems to perform when Ryder Cup points are on offer.

Thursday Midweek Stableford

Wind wind wind for last Thursday’s midweek stableford, too much for any of the ladies as there were no entires! It meant that a round close to your handicap would feature strongly. That’s exactly what Dave Thomas’ 36 points did, a level par winning score for the first time this year, runner up with 33 was Keith Morrison, with Trevor Starkey Jones finishing third on the same score.


4BBB Stableford

Saturday’s competition was a fourball better ball stableford. Unlike recent weeks, the early starters had the best weather as the heavy rain came around 3pm. Playing their last 4 holes in the middle of that were Paul Ince and Ken Morris who battled through to bring in their impressive score of 44 points. Runners up were Alan Fraser and Gary Bates with 41, Gary’s first prize since joining us earlier this year. Third also with 41 were early starters John Felton and Harry Kennedy.


Foursomes Stableford

Tuesday’s competition for the ladies was a foursomes stableford. This was the last competition to be played on the summer tees for 2017. Sara Spencer & Christina Hornsby were the winners with 34 points, runners up with 32 were Barbara Jamieson & Alka Tank, and third with 30 points were Sylvia Comer & Sheila Kenwright. Well done to Kath Grainger & Yvonne Parker for recording the only ‘2’ of the day.


The final match of the year

The Captain and I played our final challenge match of the year on Tuesday afternoon. Paul and Daniel Ince were the opponents and put up a great fight, outputting pulled us through for a 3&1 win to close out the season. The two pairs with the highest winning margin against us were Jim Eddowes & John Body and Paul Jenkins & Andy Wallis.

Divot bags are back

The divot bags have started to reappear, which is good news as they really are playing their part on the course. Please continue to use them and repair as many pitch marks as possible on your way round to keep the course at the highest standard throughout the winter.


Winter conditions

Winter conditions are in play from Thursday 12th October as we move to the forward tees. Although not needed just yet, please don’t forget that you will need winter wheels/tyres on your electric trolley if you wish to use it over the next couple of months. We have a certain level of stock and can order any others on a 2 day delivery.
