European Tour

Last week the European Tour hit Italy for the Italian Open. Having won at Wentworth last week and hosting this week Francesco Molinari didn’t think he was in with a chance realistically, he was wrong and found himself only one back going into Sunday, and who was leading? Lee Slattery! It wasn’t meant to be though as Thorbjorn Olesen from Denmark carded a final round 65 to win by one from Molinari, Lee finished a very commendable third on -20.

PGA Tour

Rory was hoping for good things going into Memorial on the PGA Tour after a blistering weekend at Wentworth, he started slowly though on Thursday and Friday, Saturday however was a different story as he fired in a moving day 64. The scientist was at work this week though and after a playoff against Ben An,
Bryson DeChambeau claimed only his second PGA Tour win.

The perfect scoring day 

Last Thursday was the second round of this year’s Trotter. Conditions were fabulous and the pins were still out from the previous days Pro-Am. Tony Walker enjoyed them tremendously with a score of 43 points, Paul Cottrell was second with 40 and third with 39 was Ryan McIvor.

Captain/Pro Challenge 

Captain Trevor and I played another challenge match that afternoon against Simon and Bob Carter, the opponents played very well but came up against us in a bit of form, playing around in 6 under par between us culminating in a 6&4 win.

Men's Invitation Day 

We welcomed a record number of guests to Saturday’s Invitation Day, 85 visitors enjoyed a fantastic day despite the heavy rain in the morning, the course was once again presented brilliantly and a good time was had by all 170 players.

Results from the day:

1st – Dave Brannigan and Steve Canning(Guest) – 46points
2nd – Neil Stephenson and his dad George – 45points
3rd – Neil Williamson and Ian Wilson - 43points
4th – John West and Ben Robinson – 43points
5th – Gary and Colin Bates- 42points

There were six nearest the pin prizes to play for:
4th Hole : Lee Pennington
7th Hole : David Holgate
14th Hole : Fred Williams
16th Hole : Dave Stonley
11th in 2 : David Greensmith
18th in 2 : James Hornsby

Ladies Team Invitation Day 

It was the Ladies turn on Tuesday as they welcomed their guests for the team invitation, again the brollies were out to shield the sun. The ladies loved the format devised by Clare Palmer which was one member and one guest to score on each hole.

Results from the day: 

1st - Alka Tank, Sue Ramsey, Sue Jones and Liz Marshall - 84 points
2nd - place Barbara Jamieson, Carole Ryder, Kath Milligan and Rosemary Russell - 78 points
3rd - 3rd place Barbara Eyres, Elsbeth Pierce, Susan Totty and Anne Morris - 76 points (Countback)

Charity Medal

Here also are the results from the Charity Medal last week:

Division One winner was Barbara Jamieson with a 75, runner up with 76 was Barb Garratt and third with 78 was Sue Banks.

In Division Two, Jackie Walker returned a 3 under par 71 to take the victory, Chris Lloyd was runner up with 74 and third with 76 was Jo Ratcliffe.

Anne Chadwick was the Division Three winner with 78, one back in second was Bernie Jones and third with 81 was Thea Cornford.

Well done to Jane Mountfield for winning her first Division Four prize with 81, runner up to Jane with 82 was Gill Syvret and third with 85 was Joyce Richmond.

Well worth the wait

We have been building up to the Pro-Am for six months and what a day it was last Wednesday. 19 teams came to the Club in a best two from four format. We had pros from all over the North West, most of whom had never played the course before; there was nothing but praise for every aspect.

Two European Tour players both sighting our 4th hole as “one of the best par 3’s they’ve played “, Gary Wolstenholme has played at The Masters!

Credit to Guy and the team for the presentation and everyone involved in running the day.
Well done to Jason who took top spot in the pro’s event with a two under par 70, beating me by three. I will get my revenge next year.
