Is it really August? After a week of torrential rain it's the club's squeegee mops that needed re-gripping.


 

The North of England championships were suspended due to heavy rains three times throughout the week but we managed to finish on time on Friday evening. All the scores can be found on our website by clicking here.

Saturday's Club Championship didn't fair much better being reduced to an 18 hole competition. The winner with a superb 71 was Oliver Carr and runner-up, receiving the Rose Bowl, was Charlie Berry with 72. The lowest nett salver went to Derek Eason with a nett 68 and the Alan Williamson trophy for best over 50's went to Shaun Carter with an 85.

This year we ran a subsidiary Yellow Tee Stableford. The winner, after countback, was Craig Russelwith 37 points edging past Brian Kearon in second. Third place went to Jim Eddowes with 36 points. Congratulations to all.


 

On Tuesday the ladies contested the Grandmothers Trophy in medal format. The blustery conditions made for a SS 77 reduction only competition. 

In div 1 the Lady Captain Barbara retuned a nett 76 to beat Judith Brown and Barbara Garrett by two shots. Div 2 was won by Christina Hornsby with 76, beating Amanda Martlew and Ruth Walker who came in second and third with 79, respectively. Div 3 saw the lowest nett score with Angeli Tank carding a 75, sadly, being a university student she doesn't qualify as a grandmother! Runner up was Jan Lyon with 78 and third was Pat Platt on 83. Div 4 was won by Sylvia Comer with 77, second was Margaret Hetherington on 80 and third, with 81, was Gill Cooper. So after all the calculations Judith M Brown was the overall winner of the Grandmothers Trophy.

Congratulations go to Jamie Donaldson for qualifying for the Ryder Cup after his win in the Czech Masters in Prague last weekend. Fantastic effort.
