Welcome to the first newsletter of autumn, reporting success on the LET, the Ryder Cup line ups are complete following this week’s tour events and we have a new surname on the 2 generations honours board. Enjoy the read. |
Racheal has done it!
This week the biggest tour news comes from the LET Access as our very own Racheal Goodall saw all that hard work and daily graft finally pay off as she won the Turfman Allerum Open of Sweden with a birdie, birdie finish for a total of 9 under par and a 2 shot victory.
Rachel has now propelled herself up to 13th in the order of merit, and this week she is in Spain hoping to continue her good form. |

The line-ups almost complete...
It was fitting that the final event for automatic places in the European Ryder Cup team was at Thomas Bjorn's home club in Denmark.
Thorbjorn Olesen confirmed his place taking the last automatic spot while plenty of others gave Bjorn something to think about: Pieters, Pepperell, Fitzpatrick and Westwood all performed well. The best performance came from Matt Wallace who beat Steve Brown (who had his lessons at Heswall for a few years) on the second playoff hole in a four man playoff having seen off Westwood and Jigger Thompson after the first playing of sudden death down 18. But somehow this win wasn’t enough to Convince Bjorn who went with some very ‘safe’ picks in the form of Stenson, Garcia, Poulter and Casey The Dell Technologies Championship in the states was a Monday finish. Tiger was impressive once again, Tommy was also up there but the winner for the second week in a row was the ever impressive, Bryson de Chambeau. There’s no-one better in the world right now than him.
Jim Furyk made 3 of his 4 picks on Tuesday afternoon and unsurprisingly he went for DeChambeau, Mickelson & Woods, his final one isn’t so much of a guarantee.

None as big as this...
We’ve seen some big Stableford scores in the Trotter this year but none as big as that of Ewan Mehra last week as he romped to victory with 47 points! This has propelled him into a 10 point lead at the top of the aggregate table with only one round to play. Runner up with 42 was Sam Burford and third with 41 was Matt Bowes.

On the agenda again...
Stableford was also on the agenda for the gents Saturday competition. Division one was a close one, Jim Eddowes was two clear at the top with 39, runner up with 37 was Adam Carter with 37 beating Martin Higby on countback.
Division two wasn’t quite as close but the scoring was fabulous, Gary Williamson, on his second stint as a member of the club returned in style with a winning 46! Runner up thinking he must have been in with a chance himself was Dave Pennington with 42 and third with 37 was Russell Smith. |
Names up in lights!
The 2 Generations Trophy is one of the highlights of the season. There’s no greater feeling than being on an honours board with a member of your family. This year is was the turn of Kyle Betteridge and Her son William who scored an excellent 40 points, runners up with 39 were Jeff and Matt Bowes, third with the same score were Neil and Joe Williamson. |
Perfect weather equals perfect scoring!
The ladies were enjoying the sunshine on Tuesday and the scoring was hot too!
Barbara Garrett scored a whopping 41 points to win division one by 3 from Christina Hornsby, third with 37 was Lucy Jamieson. Only 3 points separated the top three in division two, Marilyn Jones had 39, Helen Billington 38 and Hilary Sharpe 37. Karen Couchman won division three with 36, second was Irene Scott with 35 and third with 32 was Sheila Kenwright. 39 was the winning score for Marg Holgate in division four, second with 37 was Margaret Steeles and third with 36 was Kath Grainger.

Layer up this autumn/winter!
As promised the autumn/winter stock has started to arrive. The ladies JRB range is back after the success of the summer offering and it looks great. The HGC crest looks great once again on the FootJoy gents clothing and waterproofs. More of the same will be arriving from both Galvin Green, PING and Benross.

Gapping is vitally important to any golfer. Being able to pick a club out of the bag and knowing exactly how far you can strike the ball will make for more confident shots, as you won’t be constantly wondering if you should club up or club down. |
Not just for wedges Gapping is often associated with the shorter clubs in your bag, but it's just as important to make sure you pay attention to the gaps between your longer clubs, too. Good gapping would see you have equal gaps between clubs that are no bigger than 15 yards, as displayed in the green illustration below. In contrast, bad gapping would leave you with uneven or large distances between clubs, often over 20 yards or under 10. Having equal gaps throughout your bag will mean you are much closer with your next club, so you won’t have to manufacture shorter/longer swings or hit soft/hard shots, which is where a lot of problems begin. |
Being able to know exactly how far each club goes can be even more helpful if you have a GPS device telling you the exact distance between your ball and the pin. So if you're still guessing how far you hit each club, come and speak to a member of the team. We can guarantee it's costing you shots. |
