Welcome to this week’s news, tomorrow signals the first day of the last European Tour event of the 2018 season, the DP world tour championship is always a superb spectacle. We have the usual round up of last week's club competitions plus some more new shop offers to get stuck into |
Lee's hunting ground...
South Africa has been a lucrative place for England’s Lee Westwood having recorded a win here on 5 previous occasions. He didn’t look like making it a 6th all week until a blistering final round of 64 saw him leapfrog his friend Sergio for a 3 shot victory. The PGA tour headed south to Mexico last week for the Mayakoba Classic, scoring was once again exceptional as Matt Kuchar got himself to a winning score of 22 under par.

More in the mix...
The midweek Stableford competitions are now down to 12 holes as we lose the light in the afternoons, but this always brings more people into the mix. Taking full advantage of the shortened course in the gents event was Dave Brannagan with 29 points, Jamie Powell was the runner up with 26 and in third with the same score was John Farrell and in the ladies event Marg Shepherd won with 25. |
Tom's mightly impressive
139 players teed off on Saturday hoping to post a decent points score in their quest for the Tony Brooker Trophy over the winter. Doing his chances no harm at all was Tom Lewis who’s mighty impressive score of 45 stole the show (and Division Two!), that’s not forgetting Iain Wilson who was only one shot back himself in the same division with 44, third with 41 was Tom Brennan. Dave Green was the winner of Division One with a fine score of 41 himself, Martin Battishill was pleased with his 39 point haul in second, third with 38 was Neil Stephenson. There was a choice for the ladies on Tuesday, either 12 or 18 holes. We had 19 playing the full course and 48 opting for 12 holes.

Playoffs required...
In the 18 hole competition Division One was won by Susan Totty with 28 points, runner up with 19 was Trudi Harris. In Division Two a card playoff was needed to separate winner Annemaria Kitchen from runner up Sue Pogson after scores of 31. The same was needed in Division Three as Deborah Mintowts 28 edged out Ala Lloyd’s while Barbara Stokes was the winner of Division Four with 31 ahead of Jill Bowes in second on 29.
The 12 hole event was played as just one single division. Nicola Danford Jones was the winner with 25, runner up with 24 was Sue Banks, third with 23 was Judith Brown.
