Tour news

Straight back to it...

The European Tour has been on a festive break but continues this week with a star studded field in the Abu Dhabi Championship

They have been playing on the PGA Tour though and with the first stop being Hawaii where firstly in the Champion of Champions event Xander Schaufelle carded a magnificent final round 62 to pip Gary Woodland by just one shot.

Then, in the first official event of the season, the Sony Open the players produced some more spectacular golf; none more so than journey man Matt Kuchar whose 22 under par total secured him a win by four shots.

Competition news

No break for us here though...

We have continued to play our club comps this winter on what has been the best winter course that I think I’ve seen, which is testament to the work that Guy and the team have put in.

There are a lot of results from 2018 and early 2019 that have been missed while the news went offline over Christmas, but well done to the winners nevertheless.

There was one extra special piece of news last year though as Alan Jones recorded a hole in one on the 7th using his 7 rescue on a windy day.

Last week's runners and riders...

In the midweek stableford last Thursday, Peter Rogers posted a 4 under par 28 to take the win, runner up with 24 was Alex Chapman and in third with 23 was Phil Taylor. Wendy Smith won the ladies event with 19 ahead of Chris Fisher’s 18 and Sandra Cohen’s 16.

It was also the first Seniors Winter Stableford of 2019, which being 18 holes was a qualifier and Martin Battishill stormed the field with a superb 41, Neil Scott was runner up with 38 and third with 36 was Richard McNeill.

Saturday was another leg of the winter league over 12 holes. Luke Clague was the winner in the Kenrick with 28 points, runner up was Keith Morrison with 26 and third with 24 was Bob Blick.

Jay Tank won the Blair with 26 ahead of a whole host of players on 23, after a count back the runner up was Chris Thomas and third was Steve Skupski.

Club news

Please take note...

The green staff will shortly commence work to re-turf the edges of the pathways in front of the clubhouse and pro shop.

It has been decided that going forward, all buggies must enter and leave the course via the gap between the 18th green and practice putting green half way down the car park.

Similarly, you should not use the path in front of the shop to get to the first tee, therefore driving down the path and around the putting green.

The perfect layers

There’s no such thing as bad weather for golf – just a poor choice of clothing. You might have got away with the old ‘raincheck’ excuse a few years ago, but golf clothing has come a long way since then.
