Ryder Cup fever truly gripped the membership this week and what a fantastic week for so called rookie Jamie Donaldson, 2 foursomes wins with Lee Westwood and a 4&3 win over Keegan Bradley with ' that shot ' with his wedge on 15 to win the cup. Tremendous achievement.
Gents' Singles Stableford
On Saturday the gents enjoyed a singles stableford competition off the white tees. In Division One Jack Dodd topped the list with a very impressive 40 points. In a close second place was Simon Banks with a score of 39 points continuing his good form. Alec Zelaskowski recorded 38 points which saw him take third place. Division 2 was won by Tommy Grace with a five under par score of 41. Three points back in second place was Alan Jackson, one ahead of Chrissy Moores in third.
Ladies' Autumn Meeting
The last day of September felt like the middle of July with short sleeves everywhere for the Autumn Meeting. In Division One Charlotte Bilton returned a 4 under par 70 to take the spoils ahead of Judith Brown (72) in second and Sue Hewitt (73) in third. In Division Two Nicola Danford Jones was successful with a winning score of 78, closely followed by Sandra Jones (80) and Ruth Walker (82) in second and third places respectively.
Division Three was won with a nett score of 74 by Chris Bates, coming in second place was Marg Nicholas with a nett 79 who was closely followed by Eileen Kilgannon who was unfortunate to miss out on countback. Winning Division Four was Jayne Dixon with a nett 79, a close runner up with a nett score of 80 was Alka Tank and in third was Sue Lovell (81). Well done Ladies!
Rule of the Week
I thought over the winter as there is less to report competition wise that I would include some simple rules of golf that we are likely to encounter on a daily basis.
This week is the simple rule about sand on the green. Remember that it can only be treated as a loose impediment on the putting green and therefore can only be moved when on the putting green. Don't fall into the trap of moving it off your line from the fringe grass or apron as this will incur a penalty.
Next week : dropping from a hazard. If there are any rules on the course that you are unsure of click here and I will respond to them in a future newsletter.
Member's News
In other news one of our members and European Tour star Paul Waring made a hole-in-one albatross on the 338 yard par four 6th hole at Kingsbarns during practice on Tuesday. We wish him well for the Alfred Dunhill Championship this week.
Captain and Pro's Match
The captain and I have played two matches this week.
Losing 3&2 to John McNeill and Dave Cederholm (who tie the best score) and winning 4&3 against Dave Cleland and Peter Smears. Thank you for the enjoyable matches!
