Hello Golfers,

Welcome to this week’s news. We’ve got a busy week on the course with the Seniors Open Monday, Pro Am on Friday but more rain than you could imagine. Below is a little look at the extent of the rainfall we’ve had recently. But hopefully you can enjoy this week's read in the dry.

World of golf

Turning on the afterburners...

This week was an inter-country team event In Portugal and was the return of mixed golf. England was represented by Meghan McLaren & Florentyna Parker in the ladies team and Tom Lewis & Paul Waring in the men’s.

There were some great matches with some superb golf. It looked like the English men’s team were going to do it, having got all the way to the final relatively comfortably where they faced their final opponents, Thongchai Jaidee and Phachara Khongwatmai.

But it wasn’t to be for the local lads, having had a hole in one on the way to this final Jaidee must have thought it was going to be his week as the team from Thailand came out on top.

This was a relaxed event which was good to see as players could wear shorts and also use lasers to speed up play. Well done the European Tour.

On the PGA Tour the players were in warm-up mode for this week’s US Open at Pebble. Rory is long overdue a Major and he’s looking very good going into this week. The RBC Canadian Open proved to be a well scheduled event for him as he blew the field away on Sunday. A one shot lead isn’t huge when you have the likes of Lowry and Kuchar chasing you, but Rory turned on the afterburners for a closing round of 61 and a 7 shot win.

Martin has a stormer!

It was Trotter 3 last Thursday and once again we were just short of 100 players who took to the yellow course. Martin Batishill had a stormer, firing 42 points and a 1.0 reduction in handicap to boot while runner-up with 39 was Jack Redmond and third with the same score was Frank Lovell.

Weather stops play...

We lost the gents Alf Lambert Salver to the weather on Saturday. The course was unplayable in the morning but once again drained really well allowing us to open it again later in the afternoon. Fingers crossed for some better weather when re-replay it in August.

Rain, rain go away...

The rain was once again biblical from start to finish and the ladies Charles Craig Salver was also postponed on Tuesday.
