Great venues and great golf...
The BMW Championship is one of the big ones on the tour schedule; the German countryside is great, the cars are great and the golf is always fantastic, and the beers not too bad either. Home-favourite Martin Kaymer featured strongly, as did big guns Westwood, Wallace and Cabrera-Bello. 72 holes wasn’t enough around Golf Club Munchen Eichenried though as Matt Fitzpatrick faced Italian Andrea Pavan in the playoff. Fitzpatrick would have been the favourite to win but in the second playoff hole it was Pavan who triumphed for his second tour win. The PGA Tour headed to TPC River Highlands for the Travellers Championship last week and there were some strong showings from Paul Casey and Bryson De Chambeau. Those of you who like to have a bet may want to look at Abraham Ancer in the coming weeks who once again showed some great form. But it was Chez Reavie who rose to the top; the man from Kansas held strong for his first win in 11 years.

Last week's runners and riders...
We were back in full flow last week after the rain and the greens were superb. Trotter 4 was won by Allan Mcmaster with a fine score of 43 points, following him in was Elliot Hawe with 40 and in third with the same score was Bryan Baldwin. 182 gents played in a 4BBB Stableford on Saturday and conditions were glorious again. Victorious this time around were Neil Williamson & Chris Hornsby with 43 points, second with the same score were Jack Redmond & John Dolan and third, completing a trio of 43’s were Daniel Ince & George Roberts. The ladies also played a 4BBB Stableford on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the weather once again didn’t help them but scoring was still very good. With a huge score of 42 points the winning pair were Karen Couchman & Julie Graham, with 38 points the runners up were Alka Tank & Christina Hornsby, third with the same score were Deb Mintowt & Sue Pogson. |
Josh & Dave bring Scratch team home...
The Scratch team were in action again on Tuesday night against Caldy. Carl Adams & Adam Moore lost 4&3 in match 1, George Roberts & Dan Ince won 4&3 in game 2 and Josh Parry & Dave Cederholm won 5&4 in the last match for a 2-1 win. |
Two-out-of-two for Juniors!
The Juniors had a good win 4-2 against Prenton on Sunday, meaning they have won their opening 2 games this year. After losing the first 2 matches, Harry Burgess, Myles Bentley, Olly Davies-Wilson and Leo Baldwin won their singles to ensure victory for Heswall. |
Stealing it on the last...
The Captain and I took on defending champions Peter Moulton & Stuart Syvret in the challenge match last night in what proved to be a tough match once again. We were down for most of the match before stealing it with the last shot of the game on the 18th.
That’s now 5-wins-out-of-5 in our quest for an un defeated season.

Let's take a look at Hole 7... The dreaded ‘pond hole’ is a relatively short par 3 by today’s standards but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
The proximity of the water to the green, coupled with the back to front slope of the putting surface means that correct clubbing is essential - a perfect example of why you need to know your carry distances of your clubs as there’s not much release on a ball hitting this green.
Where can you miss it and still make par? There’s really only 2 places, short left and pin high right, anything long faces one of the most difficult pitches in the North West.
On the tee its all about commitment, any indecision or last minute nerves will not contribute positively to your outcome.
