Putting Evening at Heswall
You have the chance to attend a Putting Evening at the Club on Tuesday, 25 November between 7-9 pm.
This will be hosted by Lee Sullivan from Raa putters. The evening will consist of techniques used in green reading, equipment, speed control, aim stroke, practice and psychology. Lee will also bring with him a state of the art quintec computer to measure your stroke.
All of this comes for a very reasonable £20 per person!
Please sign up in the pro shop - we need a minimum of eight people for him to run the evening so if you're not holing out every time from five feet (who does?!) then sign up today!

Competition News
Saturday's competition felt more like winter as the course was played off the forward blue tees for the first time since March. The shorter course was evident in the scoring as Daniel Ince & Jack Dodd returned a ten under par score of 46 points, one clear of Laurie Kirkbride & John Trott with John Farrell & Jamie Powell in third on 44. 51 teams recorded a score of level par (36 points) or better with 19 pairs scoring 40 or above!
Thursday last week was the last official competition off the summer tees in the Mini Trotter. John Denton was the runaway winner with a nett 44, ahead of runner-up David Holgate beating Martin Battishill on a countback after both golfers finished with nett 48.
The ladies enjoyed a three-ball texas scramble on Tuesday for Lady Captain's Day. The winners, with a score of 85 points, were Sue Lovell, Alice Rogers and Maggie Heatherington. Runners-up, finishing one point further back on 84, were Judith Brown, Heather Ensor and Pat Sheen. Anne Chadwick, Hilary Sharpe and Sue Pogson finished in third after coming in with 80 points. Well done, ladies!
What's in the bag?
As I explained previously, I am going to be diving into your bags and saying what is good about your set and making suggestions on how I would improve it. The first subject of my 'What's in the bag?' feature is +2 handicapper Tom Dolan. Tom currently carries:
Driver - Titleist 910
3-wood - Nike VR 15 degrees
Irons - TaylorMade MB blades (2-PW)
Wedges - Vokey SM5 wedges (52, 56, 60)
Putter - Odyssey Versa no7
My recommendations are as follows. Tom's driver is now four-years old meaning he is losing out on a lot of advanced technology aimed at making the game easier! The new Titleist 915 driver offers much more consistency for off centre hits, with a 98% return versus only 47% off his 910 driver - even a +2 handicapper won't find the middle every time!
I would seriously consider replacing his 2 and 3-iron with a hybrid equivalent. The centre of gravity of a hybrid is further from the face making this club more versatile and much more forgiving.
At the other end of his bag he has got it right with four wedges, ensuring that his 'gapping' is spot on! After all, this is the end of the game that will save you the most shots over a round of golf! It is important to have three or four wedges in your bag to ensure you are covered to play any shot that is required during your round.
