Watch out for this boy... The European Tour stopped in Holland last week for the KLM Open. I had picked our home man Joost Luiten as one to watch, the Dutchman had a good go at it and finished in the top 10. Scoring was as good as expected - it was veteran Sergio Garcia who topped the field though, experience told as he held off the challenging pack which included three Englishmen. The PGA Tour started its new season with the Greenbrier where records were set. Kevin Chappell had an incredible 59 in round 2 with eight consecutive birdies on his card. The records belonged to the winner though as Joaquin Niemann became the first player from Chile to win on tour. This was the 20 year olds first victory, and he did it by 6 shots from an experienced field. Watch out for this boy!

Sitting pretty... There was a break from Trotter last week before tomorrow’s finale but we still contested a Stableford with over 70 entrants. Barry Martin was the best of them with a superb score of 41, Phil Nugent was second with 39 and Dan Ince was third with 38. Ironically, it’s Dan who is sitting pretty at the top of the Trotter aggregate and Barry is one of those who can catch him with another low one tomorrow.

Autumn meeting... Saturday we were back on the blue tees for the Autumn Meeting. After some swing tweaks and course management sessions, Luke Kay proved his potential to win the trophy with a nett 70.
Runner up to him in Division One was Dan Ince with 72 and one back in third with 73 was Dave Cederholm. Sam Toothill was the Division Two winner with 73, followed in by Brian Kearon with a 74 and Dave Garratt with 76.

Jamie scores an Ace... Dave Harland took top spot in the yellow tee Stableford with 38 points, runner up with 37 was Terry Hurst and in third with 36 was Martin Higby. Special mention to Jamie Powell who had a hole in one on the 7th.

Traffic light triumph... Judith Brown devised a new traffic light competition for the ladies on Tuesday. Teams of 3 teed off from the Reds on the first, yellows on the second and green tees on the third...and so on in this best 2 from 3 Stableford format. With 80 points, the winners were Jane Mountfield, Julie Graham and Judith herself. Runners up with the same score were Helen Doyle, Kelly Marsh & Pat Sheen. Third place went to Alice Rogers, Marilyn Jones & Christine Hancock. The 9 hole event under the same rules was won by Eileen Kilgannon & Judith Whiteley as a team of 2!

It wasn't meant to be... The Scratch team played their last golf of the season over the weekend, The County League Final against Prestbury at Wilsmlow Golf Club. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be as George Roberts & Dan Ince lost 6&5 Josh Parry & Dave Cederholm lost 1 down, and Joe Williamson & Carl Adams won 2 up.

Goodbye laces. Hello Boa... Technology in today's golf equipment continues to amaze us year-on-year, but it's not just our clubs that are making strides in the tech department. Believe it or not, golf shoes are some of the most advanced products in the market thanks to the evolution of the Boa Fit System, which is replacing traditional laces. Not only does it fasten your shoe, but when the Boa dial is on the heel of your shoe, it pulls your foot back and down to provide the perfect fit for extreme comfort and stability out on the course. |

Course strategy - Hole 16 This is a tricky short hole, where length needs to prevail. The deep bunker front right of the green is one of the most visited on the course. Anything landing short right of the green will kick off this way, it’s not easy to hit the ball on line as often as you want but it’s easy to take more club! How often have you been playing your second shot from the slope at the back of this green? Not very often would be my guess. One of my favourite tips for the members is to play to the yardage to the back of the green, on this hole it’s a must. The green itself is tricky, there are some fairly obvious breaks but a lot of more subtle ones. If you’ve picked a line, aim again but this time a little higher, and trust it. |

It's great walking to the first tee with a new driver in hand (that's been custom fitted to suit your swing, of course) that you know will help you outdrive your playing partners, but sometimes it can be a simple change to the ball that you're using that has the biggest effect on your game. |
