Another rules controversy for Reed

The beautiful island of Mauritius provided a stunning setting for the Afrasia Bank Open last week and, not for the first time, 72 holes wasn’t enough. After scores of 19 under par, there was a playoff between Antoine Rosner, Renato Paratore & Rasmus Hojgaard. It was the young Dane, ranked 408 in the world who got it done.

How about the rules controversy hanging over Patrick Reed? Usually the Pro's get the benefit of the doubt but this time I think he’s got it drastically wrong!

Competition news

Competition round-up

The Captain, Roy, turned on the style in last week's Seniors Stableford with a superb 42 points. Dave Collyer was more than happy with his 40 points in second and in third with 39 was Neil Scott.

The Midweek Stableford was won by Brian Vincent with 25 ahead of Simon Gow with 24 and Colin Jones with the same score.

We were back in Winter League action on Saturday. In the Blair, Phil Highs back 9 took care of the win with 28 points in total, Phil Nugent was second with the same score and third with 27 was Andy Scarborough. In the Kenrick, Magdy Taher saw off Brendon Bilton on countback after a pair of 27’s, third with 26 was Simon Guest. Lewis Body was the best junior with 28 points of his own.

There was a shotgun for the ladies Christmas Competition on Tuesday and it was timely as the heavens opened just as they had about finished.

The winning team were Sue Banks, Kate Dean, Anne Chadwick & Anne Cleary. The runners up were Kelly Marsh, Ala Lloyd, Deb Mintowt & Helen Doyle and in third place were Trudi Harris, Anne Fisher, Sue Wright & Trish Lees.

Unpaid shop accounts

There are still a large number of unpaid shop accounts - like previously mentioned, we are trying to get all negative balances back to £0 for Wednesday, 1 January so we can run a more manageable accounts system from 2020.

Members can now view the weekly events on and off the course on our brand new monitor in golf reception.

This has replaced the old whiteboard giving live up-to-date information.

Sometimes, the difference between a scratch golfer and a 9-handicapper can be quite small, such as how far they each hit the ball. However, there is certainly one part of the game that can be hugely different and it’s the area where your score is either made or lost.

Why the gap?

It's brilliant to see more club golfers getting fitted for new clubs now than ever before, and long may that continue!

But why would you not get fitted for your wedges?

With modern lofts on irons being stronger than ever (one of the reasons today's irons go further than a decade ago), golfers are often left with huge gaps between clubs at the bottom of their bag.
