How are we all coping with 18 holes? It’s been a rough week weather wise for the start of summer but at least the course itself was thankful for it.
We’ve continued with the informal stablefords as we ease ourselves back into competitive golf. 90 gents played on Thursday and there were some superb scores, Frank Lovell's 3-under-par 39 nudged out Chris Hoernsby's 39, third with another 39 was Colin Jones. There was a mid-week record of 24 ladies playing in the red tee event, Chrisitne Hancock was the winner with 37, Alka Tank came second on the same score and third with 36 was Deb Bevan. The wind was up for Saturday's competitions, this didn’t phase Sue Banks who won the ladies event by 6 shots with 39, runner-up with 33 was Carolyn Warren and third with 30 was Nicola Stonley. There were three divisions in the gent's event for the first time in the club's history. Graham Dixon and Carl Law both had 37 in division one, third with 34 was Alan Jones, Mark Prosser won division two with 35 ahead of Chris Dhenin's 34 and Russ Smith's 3.1Brendon Bilton had a stormer (pardon the pun) to win division three with 39, runner-up with 37 was Simon Guest and third with 36 was Magdy Taher. The ladies played their first Tuesday competition of the season proper with 18 or 9 holes Stableford. Barbara Garrett took top spot in division one with 36 points on a three way card play-off from Clare Palmer and Sara Spencer. Theresa O'Neill was division two's winner with 37, runner-up with 36 was Hilary Sharpe and third with 34 was Deborah Mintowt. The overall best score came from Alka Tank in division three with a whopping 40 points, Julie Graham was second with 35 and third with 33 was Sandra Cohen. Jane Mountfield pipped Wilhelmina Van Der Hoeven to top spot in division four on a countback with 36 points, third with 33 was Gill Syvret. Margaret Steels was the 9 hole winner with 16 points.
