Hole 8 - 370/269 yards (Par 4)
The 8th is a very deceptive hole! The further up the fairway you hit it, the harder it gets making it more difficult for the longer hitters to choose a club. This hole forever provides an example of what for me is the worst thing you can do wrong in golf - "a good shot with the wrong club". The easiest place to leave your tee shot from any of the tees is short of the two bunkers on the elbow of the hole, the amount of shots I see roll into those bunkers is frightening. If you are hitting a club that may reach, you're hitting the wrong club! Often into the wind I would advise hitting the shot 'well' not 'hard', any swing path error will see your ball sucked into the long grass on either side. This is a hard green to get close to most hole locations, the middle of the green however will ensure at least your next shot will be with your putter!
Last Thursday's Winter Stableford was as popular as ever. With a score of 26 points, Steve Skupski took top spot by two points from Martin Higby in second.
The Chris Kenrick produced some great golf on Saturday, not least from Martin Higby who handed in a seven under par 43 to win by three from Trevor Starkey Jones on 40 and Jamie Powell on 39.
In the Blair Salver Rick Austin decided it had been at least 10 days since he won something and so returned a winning score of 38 which was one clear of Dave Cederholm, John Farrell, Mark Sanderson and Pete Vine. The latter two being pushed out of the prizes on countback. Special mention to Ray Parsons who had obviously read the tips on how to play the 6th two weeks ago as he scored a two for 5 points! (he must not have read about how to play the other holes yet!)
It's the Captains' Drive-In this Sunday, the ceremony on the first tee will start at 8.30am with a 9.30am shotgun for the team competition.
12 holes was enough for the ladies on Tuesday with a wind chill of -6! In Division One Judith Brown topped the tree with 22 points from Sue Banks in second with 20 and Kate Dean in third with 19. Chris Lloyd's 21 was enough to take Division Two with Sue Pogson and Sheila Scott in second and third with 20. It was the same winning score for Christine Hancock in Division Three as her 21 was better on countback than Hazel Ridge's with Hillary Sharpe two back in third. Another countback in Division Four as yet again 21 was the winning score, Helen Billington (a podium regular) pipping Kath Grainger with Alka Tank in third with 17. Barbara Chesworth and Linda Denton split this weeks' twos pot with a two on the 2nd and 7th, respectively
We have taken delivery of a lot more summer shoes this week from Nike's award winning Lunar Control 3 as worn by Rory to FootJoy's ever popular spikeless range. Back by popular demand is also the 2015 FootJoy clothing range for both gents and ladies, we are offering both crested and uncrested apparel.
Don't forget that the range is now open, all play must be from the mats with range balls, you may use your own balls on the chipping and putting greens.
