Preparation for the Charity Day on Sunday, 21 June that is being run by the club captains is well underway. Please watch out for the huge poster going up in the golf reception. Booking will be online but we will always be on hand in the shop to assist with those who are not able to get to a computer. We will be looking for volunteers on the day and any raffle prizes that you wish to donate will be gratefully received.
Thursday's Midweek Stableford saw Peter Brown take top spot with 24 points (over 12 holes). He won by one from Callum Dalton and Frank Lovell.
No Blair Salver this week with the matchplay in progress, however there was a sweep for those not involved. Thomas Kitchen was the victor getting one over on his junior organiser Shaun Carter by way of a card play-off after a pair of 35s. Brian Edwards was one back in third.
This was the last week of the Chris Kenrick with only Phil High and Magdy Taher able to knock Martin Higby out of top spot, and although Phil finished fourth it wasn't enough to do it! Well done Martin on winning the Kenrick Winter Series with a total of 191. On the day Richard Larkins stood up to the wind the best to record 35 points from Tony Walker (33) in second and Mark Leat (32) in third.
The ladies played in some awful weather on Tuesday, so much so that the executive decision was taken to reduce the comp to the top 11 holes. It was a best two from four Team Stableford and the wining team were Marilyn Jones, Sheila Scott, Kate Dean and Sue Totty on countback from Ruth Walker, Ann Scriven, Sue Pogson and Jayne Dixon
You may have seen my adverts for the Nike Experience Day that we are holding on Wednesday, 13 May. This is going to be a total experience: an 18 hole stableford, swing and putting analysis and a chance to try everything Nike have to offer with spot prizes for shots taken using and wearing Nike kit. It will be a fantastic day all round. Tee times will be limited to approximately 120 and are open to all members who hold a full club handicap. Book your slot in the shop now or by contacting us here!
Don't forget about my strict price policy. I will always endeavour to match even the cheapest prices on the internet and in some cases even beat them! If you feel like there is no chance I could, please ask, I won't be offended and you may be surprised!
Our Masters Sweep is in full flow but there are still some big names left in the pot. Why not take a punt and add some more interest to your Masters viewing? The Motocaddy battery trade-in, FootJoy shoe trade-in and Titleist four for three ball promotions are still currently running.
Hole 12 - 509/429 yards (Par 5)
Hole 12 is a fairly gentle par five by modern standards but watch out as this hole has its troubles. The three fairway bunkers offer more than the usual penalty due to the severity of the faces. A tee shot up the right side, all be it more inline with the hazard, will mean you have a much better chance of opening up the green for your approach. Height here is key, I've seen so many straight faced clubs clatter into the tress around the pond and end up wet.
Not many can reach the green in two so why try the hero shot. A mid iron over the corner will set you up with an approach from 150 ish yards. More club into the green is a must here. The false front on this green means that it is all carry. This green is also deceptively long, a 60 foot putt is better than trying to up and down from most spots around this green. Especially the Wirral way side!
