Greetings from Tom Atkinson
Heswall Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Hole 17 - 564/413 yards (Par 5)

Our last par five and a birdie chance. Using the bunkers either side of the fairway is the easiest way to get yourself in position here. If you can carry the ones on the right then this is your line. If you haven't quite got the firepower then a tee shot finishing short of the one on the left will open up the second shot for you. The second shot again will be dictated by your length. A lay-up to the top of the hill inbetween the traps will give you a good look at the green. The longer hitters will need to send it over the hill towards the right hand side of the green, a ball finishing here will leave the most straight forward up and down.

Thu 30 Apr - Congratulations to Andy Roberts in Thursday's Midweek Stableford. His 25 points in tricky conditions were enough to pip Keith Stevenson on countback. One shot behind them in third was Brian Edwards.

Sat 2 May - The May Stableford didn't really feel like it weather wise. In Division One Jamie Powell made some recent form count to record a winning 38 points, ahead of Thomas Kitchen with 37 and Joseph Willimason with 36. In Division Two Peter Walsh continued his quest for promotion into Division One with 38 points and a two shot handicap reduction. Runner-up with 33 was Richard Larkins with Colin Smith finishing in third on 32.

Sun 3 May - For the 12 hole competition on Sunday a new junior - Hayat Leung - came first with 38 points. Fantastic result! In second was Greg Wilkinson with 30 points with James Webster missing out on countback. All have been rewarded with healthy handicap reduction - check your handicaps on the website. In the 18 hole competition, Oliver Dillon, playing off 13, pipped Matthew Bowes on a back nine countback, both scoring 36 points. Well done to you both.

Mon 4 May - Alka and Jay Tank took top spot in the second Bank Holiday mixed of the year. Their incredible score of 42 points was enough to claim victory by three from John McNeill and Sue Totty. Still under par with 37 were Richard Alexander and Marilyn Jones in third place.

Tue 5 May - More blustery conditions on Tuesday for the Ladies Stableford. Top of the pops in Division One was ex-lady captain Barbara Jamieson with 33 points, followed by Sue Banks with 30 and Sue Totty with 28. Sheila Scott triumphed in Division Two with 32 points, one ahead of runner-up Bernie Jones with Jo Ratcliffe in third on 28. Similar scores in Division Three for the winner Christine Fisher (32). Chris Bates (30) took second place and Brenda Dooney (28) third. In Division Four Sue Lovell topped the list with 27 with Gill Cooper and Rose Dhenin in second and third with 25 points, respectively.
