Hole 18 - 334/265 yards (Par 4)
Our home hole and a chance to end in style. This is one of the shorter par fours on the card and if played efficiently can offer up a real birdie chance. The tee shot looks tricky but with some thought it's straight forward. If you have the firepower to carry the two fairway bunkers then drive towards the left side of the green. This will leave a very short pitch into the green allowing you to get on the right side of the pin. If this carry is out of the question then you should aim for the fairway at the corner of the dogleg, too often I see players ending up in between and therefore either in one of the traps or stuck behind the oak tree. Neither of which allow an easy shot onto the green. If the opportunity arises try and leave yourself under the cup as this is the most treacherous green on the course and anything high or even pin-high with the putter will be a good two-putt.
Thu 7 May - Thursday saw the first round of the Trotter Series for 2015. Yellow tee medal replacing the winter stableford series. Some good scores were recorded on what was a fantastic day. Taking top spot was Alex Macdonald with the only under par round as he returned a nett 70. Runner-up on the day with 72 was Tom Dolan ahead of Phil High on countback.
Sat 9 May - The King George V white tee medal was contested for on Saturday. The course held up very well after the deluge on Friday. In Division One Ryan Garland made some recent range time pay with a winning score of 72, two shots back in second was Micheal Roberts who pipped Ben Dixon into third after a five-way tie on 74. In Division Two John West claimed top spot with a 75 from Peter Walsh (again) with 77 in second and Kenny Davies in third. Keep concentrating on those par threes as yet again a 'two' paid very handsomely.
Tue 12 May - The ladies were out in force to run a very successful Open Day on Tuesday. A nice bright and breezy day with the course in top condition made for a very enjoyable
What a day we had yesterday! Nike Golf came in and took over the practice ground where we custom fitted 25 people, raised awareness of the brand and gave the members the chance to try and try on all that Nike have to offer. The pairs stableford wasn't as well supported but those who participated had a great day.
Congratulations to the winners of Ian Colligan and John Kurton who went round in 42 points (23 back nine) to win a pair of Lunar Control 3 shoes each. Runners-up on the day were visitors Mark Ellison and John Thompson (guests of Mike Burke) and won a polo shirt each. In third, winning a dozen Nike RZN balls, were Tom Dolan and Andy Roberts. Nearest the pin on 14th went to Mark Ellison. Thanks for everyone's support.
My short game clinic on the 20th May is now fully-subscribed but not to worry as I will be running one again in June and every month thereafter. Don't let your game suffer in the meantime though as I am now teaching five days a week with plenty of availability.
