Greetings from Tom Atkinson
Heswall Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

It was another magnificent win for Rory in the Wells Fargo championship last week and here's what was in his bag:

Driver: Nike Vapor Pro 8.5-degree (MRC Diamana S+ 70 TX)
Fairway Woods: Nike Vapor Speed 3-wood/15-degree and 5-wood/19-degree
Irons: Nike VR Pro Blade (4-9)
Wedges: Nike VR Forged 46-degree, 52-degree, 56-degree and Nike Engage 59-degree
Putter: Nike Method 006
Ball: Nike RZN Black

Captain/Pro Challenge - The Captain and I made it two wins from two as we edged past Mark Sanderson and Pete Higgins with a 2&1 victory in our lastest challenge match. Our next opponents (who beat myself and Martin last year) are my dad Neil & Rick Austin.

Trotter 2 - Another healthy turnout for Trotter 2 last Thursday and some fabulous scoring. Tom Kitchen came out on top with a nett 67 (gross 74) despite a double bogey 6 on the first hole. Runner up also with 67 was Peter Cucchi and he will know which putt it was that cost him! In third was David Cleland; a great score from David showing that practice really does help!

Saturday 4BBB -
Saturday's 4BBB had a field of 168 competitors which is great to see. Six under par was the right number for Daniel Ince and Joe Williamson as their 42 points was enough to win on a card playoff from Phil High and Peter Walsh and in third with an excellent score of 41 was Tony Walker & John Reid.

Ladies Spring Meeting -
The ladies battled some poor conditions yet again on Tuesday in their Spring Meeting. In Division One Barbara Jamieson came up trumps to win with a nett 77. Runner up with a nett 80 was Clare Palmer and in third with an 81 was Judith Brown. In Division Two a nett 81 was on top of the tree for Chris Lloyd. Runner up with an 86 was Jo Ratcliffe on a card play-off from Sue Pogson. The Lady Captain Eileen carried on her good form to win Division Three with a nett 77 with Hilary Sharpe second with a 78 and Pat Platt third with an 81. Theresa O'Neill wasn't to be outdone as she triumphed in Division Four with a nett 78, two ahead of Alice Rogers and Jacqueline Walker in second and third respectively. Special mention to Sue Totty for recording the day's only two.

The knockout competitions are now well under way. Please check the deadlines for each round and arrange your matches in plenty of time.

Huge congratulations to Lady Captain Eileen and ex-Lady Captain Barbara as they stormed to victory at Royal Liverpool on Monday in the Captain of Captains field day for the Joyce Fisher and Margaret Harris trophies. Congratulations also go to Mary Holgate, Mo Cubley, Cherry Coates and Joan Wilson who won the team competition for the founders trophy in the same event.

Volunteers Needed - Captain's Charity Day

Volunteers are required for the Captain's Charity Day on Sunday, 21 June. There are a number of different roles to volunteer for during the day. Please have a look at the list outside the pro shop and fill your name in accordingly. Many thanks.

Short Game Clinic

Thanks to everyone who attended my short game clinic yesterday. Again it was an eye opener for most people. It's amazing what a little understanding of the concept can do. Don't forget if you missed out that I will be running one of these a month. If you can't wait that long and want to get a few of you together then I can offer a similar session to smaller groups of up to 5 people. Click here to let me know if you'd like to be part of a clinic.

How to Play Heswall

I have completed my ' how to play ' guide now for all 18 holes. If you missed out on any or need a refresher they will be uploaded to the club website this week.

I am going to start to review certain products on a week to week basis. The vast majority of people have a look at the reviews when booking a hotel for the first time so why not have it for golf equipment?

This week I will be looking at the Adams Tight Lies 2 fairway woods.

Those Adams fans out there will know how successful the tight lies woods have been in the past. This new one is no exception. It is a modified version of last years model with the main feature being the 'slot' which hangs the face back from the head delivering more flex and ultimately more speed off the face. This is what makes the Adams range so easy to get in the air. A must for anyone who struggles to get their second shots airborne.

Click here to see an image of the club.

The compact shallow face sets up lovely behind the ball , with a top of the range Kuro Kage shaft in and for £149 this makes for a really outstanding club that suits any handicap. Lofts available 14.5, 16, 19 and 22. If you'd like a fitting please click here.
