Greetings from Tom Atkinson
Heswall Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

My review this week is of the Benross 2015 range. They have the Hot, Speed and Max drivers all available at £149.99, which offer six different draw/fade settings and three heads for either high, mid and low handicappers. Each model comes with the most played shaft on tour by Aldila and a Golf Pride grip as standard. These are the ultimate in performance and value for money drivers.

You have probably had a club fitting, clothes fitting and got the right size glove for yourself but have you ever had a true shoe fitting? Over 75% of people who have been professionally measured were found to be wearing the wrong size. Angel Cabrera was one of those at the 2014 Open at Hoylake, his were a size and a half too big! FootJoy are coming into the shop to do a full Shoe Fitting Day. It's a must for any serious golfer. Date and time to follow in next week's newsletter so get yourself booked in.

Thu 28 May - Trotter 4 was played last Thursday and some fine results were made. Seeing the benefit of his new Nike golf balls, being an inch away from an ace on the 7th and returning a lifetime best 73 gross, Hywel Jones took top spot with a nett 66. Also returning a 73 gross for a nett 67 was Scratch Team Captain Dave Cederholm. Playing infront of me on the day was John Kitchen who looked like he was swinging well, he finished third with a nett 68.

Fri 29 May - The Green Tee 12-hole competition that followed the junior informal chat on Friday had a healthy participation and the weather brightened up for them. Taking top prize with a fabulous score of 33 points was Leo Baldwin - all that practice is paying off. Well done, Leo. Coming an admiral second was Sam Donelly with 25 points and in third was James Lemon, still in fine form with 23 points.

Sat 30 May - If we thought the scoring was good in Thursday's Trotter event, wait for Saturday's Alf Lambert results. In Division One, carrying on from where he left off, was John Kitchen only this time he stormed to victory with 76, nett 63! Runner-up on the day was Joe Williamson (75, nett 69) and in third was Shaun Holgate (84, nett 70). In Division Two Chris Moores fired in an excellent nett 66 to take a two-shot victory from Phil Boon in second and Jerry Healy (nett 71) in third.

Tue 2 Jun - Into June for the next set of results as the ladies played through yet more wintery conditions in their 18-Hole Stableford. There is a right family battle taking place in Division One of late, this time it's advantage Lucy as her 34 points beat her mum, Barbara, on countback. In third with 32 was Sue Humphreys. Division Two saw Bernie Jones take victory on countback from Wendy Smith as both scored 30 points, followed by Christina Hornsby on 28 points. 34 points was the winning score for Pat Sheen in Division Three with Brenda Dooney in second on 33 and Marg Nicolas third on 28. In Division Four, Sylvia Comer continued the 34 point trend as she took top spot by two from Helen Billington, two further back on 28 was Anne Fisher in third.

The Captain and I sought revenge on my dad, Neil, and his partner, Rick Austin, as we saw them off by 5&4 in the challenge match.

On Sunday the Heswall team of Joe Williamson, Sam Burford, Ollie Dillon, Sean Bissaker, Ev Demetrios, Anna Webster, Matty Bowes and Will Hindle defeated Cheshire's U14 boys team at Heswall by 5-3. Well done to all involved.

Lucy Jamieson has been selected to represent Cheshire at the Nothern Ladies County match week held at Sandiway GC between 22-26 June. This is a fantastic achievement so well done, Lucy.
