Good morning golfers,
The course is looking as fantastic as it ever has done. Please make sure you help to keep it this way by repairing your pitch marks and taking a divot bag out with you to repair those divots. Please also ensure that the rake is left totally inside the bunkers and not half in half out as this can affect the lie of the next golf ball that comes to rest on it.
Date for your diary. I have a rare opportunity to host a Titleist Club Fitting Day on the practice ground. It will be held between 11.00am and 3:00pm on Tuesday, 21 July. The 30 minute fitting slots will be allocated on a first come first served basis, bookable from now via the pro shop. Titleist will bring all of the latest equipment and ball flight technology so get yourself booked in early to avoid disappointment.
I have now started a shirt amnesty - trade in an old shirt, no small print and get £10 OFF every polo shirt until further notice.
Lloyd Hart became the fifth first-time winner of a Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit title after eight events, thwarting Portal's Adam Wills on countback for the second time over the weekend in the Eaton Talbot. The Heswall man was three shots off the pace after a first round 75 but stormed back with a 70 to claim the honours as Caldy's Dominic Barnes settled for third place after matching his aggregate. Well done, Lloyd - fabulous golf!
82 played in last week's Trotter 6, which saw Mike Green record 10 pars on his card to come out on top with his nett 67. Stuart Syvret has been knocking on the door in recent weeks but this time he opened it with a 68 to finish runner-up. Third on the day went to Trotter 5 winner Richard Robinson with a nett 70.
Saturday's forecast for the Gatyon Estates Medal was thunder and lightning. Jayesh Tank will be glad that it was wrong as he carded a gross 79 for a nett 67 to take Division One, helped largely by a level par 36 on the front nine!. Runner-up on the day, courtesy of going one better on the back nine (35), was James Smethurst for a nett 68 total. Third place went to Nick Spencer with his nett 71. It's great to see Past Captain Ken Davies showing us why he has been a single-figure player in the past in topping Division Two with a nett 68. Andy Green managed to shake off his back nine gremlins to card a second placed nett 69, with Brian Hillhouse in fine form himself for 71 and third place. There were 21 twos on the day, none better than that of John Shannon on the 10th!!!
It was the Matrimonial Cup on Sunday, congratulations to Jay and Alka Tank for yet another mixed victory - nett 70 was a fabulous score in this foursomes format. Runners-up with 73.5 were Pat and Brian Kearon with Rose and Brian Dhenin in third with 74.
Tuesday's Ladies Day was the hottest day of the year so far. The results for the Centenary Salver will be in next week's newsletter as there were some late tee entries missing my newsletter deadline!
