Greetings from Tom Atkinson
Heswall Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

I will be offering some reductions on golf shoes over the next few weeks as we still have plenty in stocks so please come in and ask for your size as there won't be the same reductions on pairs that we have to order in.

As it is the end of the month, I take this opportunity to put out a polite request to settle any outstanding monies on your shop account. Those who use online banking may wish to do a bank transfer. Please ring the shop for the details.

I often get asked if I can match internet prices, the answer is yes I can. If you fancy something but don't see it in the shop please don't hesitate to ask. I have a variety of different brands in the shop but cannot accommodate them all. If it's on the market though, I will be able to get it at the most competitive prices.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Short Game Clinic yesterday. As the 10 members will agree, the session is more about the concept of chipping and putting and how to make the most of the situation you are presented with. There will be some enlightening information on technique but don't think that I will be asking you to undergo a complete re-build if you decide to attend next month's clinic! Keep a look out for more details.

Our 100% record in the Captain/Pro Challenge went last week as we fell fowl of some very impressive golf by Paul Jamieson and Hywel Jones. An excellent match whereby we went 3 up through five, halved the 14th with 2s and then lost on the last. We are hoping to get back an track against the Chair of Finance and the Chair of Greens although they will have other ideas.

Thu 23 Jul - The Trotter 12 last Thursday yet again produced some great scores. The yellow course is playing at least two shots easier than the other courses this year for the men. Alex Cranston pipped Trevor Moon to the win on countback after a pair of 68s. Third with 69, again on countback, was Josh Dixon with 69.

Sat 25 Jul - It didn't really feel like it but it was the Summer Meeting on Saturday. As has been the case a few times this year, a good score on Thursday has been followed by a good score on Saturday. This time it was Josh Dixon who carried his good form over with a 73 (nett 70) to win Division One. Runner-up with 73 was Keith Greenfield and one further back in third was Andy Nolan. Frank Johnson was your winner in Division Two with nett 72, three clear of Gareth Pennington and Pete Walsh in second and third. This is good scoring off the blue tees in difficult conditions.

Sat 25 Jul - 37 points was needed to win the alternative Yellow Tee Stableford. Two players managed this with Jamie Powell beating Nick Spencer on the back nine. Third place went to John Farrell with 36 points.

Tue 28 Jul - Well done to the scratch team on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win vs Bromborough. This was the first win of the season, having lost four and halved two. Lloyd Hart and Josh Dixon beat the Brown brothers 4&3, Shay Keogh and Dave Cederholm turned it round from 1 down on 16th tee to win 1 up.

The juniors have continued to turn up in all weather conditions to play their informal competitions. Last Wednesday Cameron McIvor beat Elliot Harris to top spot in the 18-hole event with his 34 points. In the 12-hole event off the red tees Leo Baldwin stormed to victory with 29 points, he was six clear of Jek Leung in second with Olly Davies Wilson one further back in third. In the green-tee event Max Donnally was the victor with 13 points. Well done to all.

The ladies yet again had some poor weather to play a Medal in, however you wouldn't think so by some of the scores! How about a nett 69 from Hilary Sharpe to win the Silver Division together with a handicap reduction of four shots!!! In Division One Angela Starkie was two clear of Sue Totty and Trudi Harris with her 75, claiming her the Flora Edwards Trophy. Christine Hancock led the way in Division Two on nett 75, five shots ahead of Sheila Scott and Jo Ratcliffe. The runner-up behind Hillary in Division Three was Chris Bates on 81 with Ann Scriven in third on 85. 75 was also the winning score for Theresa O'Neill in Division Four - that's five top three finishes in seven events now for Theresa! Runner-up with 82 was Kate Sellars and in third with 86 was Anne Chadwick.
