Hello golfers,
Well Jason Day finally got the monkey off his back and in some style, too. What a magnificent performance to tame the beast that is Whistling Straits with a major record 20-under-par. As for Jordan Spieth, a total of 49-under-par for the majors and now number one in the world. Why is he so good? His putting!! Work on your putting and if you already do, work on it a bit more! You won't believe the results.
I have now discounted all of the ladies and gents' polo shirts in the summer sale so grab yourself a bargain while stocks last!
Places are being filled rapidly for our Raa Putters Fitting Day which is on the putting green a week today (27th) between 11.00am and 3.00pm. Please ring the shop to book a place. This is a unique opportunity to experience putting demonstrations and ball measurements on a tour level!
Please can we all help to keep our golf course in the great condition that we are currently enjoying by remembering to take out divot bags, repair pitchmarks and rake bunkers properly.
The Captain and I took on Charlie Berry and Dave Cederholm in our latest challenge match. I was especially looking forward to this one as Charlie had to give me two shots! It was a ding dong match all the way round culminating in Dave and myself making 3s on the last to half the match in the dark.
Thu 13 Aug - Trotter 15 on Thursday saw 77 people enter. Martin Higby followed his recent Invitation win with another here. Using his new Nike Vapor irons and Nike balls, he carded a nett 68 to win by one shot from Jeff Bowes and Elliot Smith in second and third.
Sat 15 Aug - There was a welcome break from the handicap qualifying comps as the gents played a 4-man Texas Scramble on Saturday. A great opportunity for most to experience a gross under par score! With a gross 61 for a nett 57.7, the winners were Daniel Ince, Andy Roberts, Elliot Smith and Joe Williamson. Runners-up, playing as a three, were Paul Howard, Colin Smith and Richard Larkins with a nett 59.2 and in third with 60.1 were Ben Kelly, Peter Vine, Lee Pennington and Alan Roberts.
Sun 16 Aug - The juniors contested their Summer Meeting on Sunday. I'm pleased to announce Matt Bowes as the winner as no one currently works harder on their game than Matt. His nett 66 was the best score by six shots from Daniel Ince and Elliot Harris. In the 18-hole Junior Informal, Alfie Iertson pipped Katie Cleary to the win after they both scored 36 points. Joe Spencer took top spot in the 12-hole event with 22 points.
The ladies didn't have a competition on Tuesday due to the North of England U16 week and International match. In the match between England and Switzerland girls, England claimed the initiative with a 1.5-0.5 win in the morning foursomes. However in the afternoon it was the Swiss girls that did the business with a 3-1 singles victory. This meant the Switzerland beat England over all by a score of 3.5-2.5. The first round of the U16s Championship was completed last evening and the scores can be seen on our website.
